They idle warm because of the stock fan temps. The thermostat and stock WP are capable of keeping it nearly 30degrees cooler at idle than GM programmed the fans for.

The 55gpm unit most definitely will NOT over cool the engine as that is still LESS than the stock pump moves at mid to high rpms.

All the flow in the world will not help at idle if the fans are not on. Every car with electric fans gets hotter at idle (no air movement across the radiator). If you want to change how it acts at idle, change the fan settings.

Nothing wrong with running them on a DD. I did so for years without any issues. In Texas it also helps when sitting in stop and go traffic. I'm not sure how much benefit you will see in Michigan though. Do you take the car to the track a lot?

I had the ewp on my 95 DD and it would only last a year. Went back to the stock 1 after the 3rd ewp and it has been running 2yrs strong without a problem.

Ahh.... Good point. I didn't even think about that in my stupor last night. Well, then I guess you would have to get a 160 thermostat and tune, then.

If you read my post one before his I told you you can keep it almost 30 degrees cooler with JUST fan programming changes. The stock b-body first fan temp is 224. I have seen a lot of b-bodies run about 195-197 on the highway with a stock stat, fan could be set nearly that low.

With a good tune, 160 thermostat, and checking the cooling system and making sure there is plenty of coolant and the right mixture, that there is no air in the system using the bleeder screw, and that the fans are functioning properly. With all this said you will be alright as long as your fans are working properly. Although if you do drive in alot of stop and go traffic and you want your car that cool then you will surely need to reprogram the fans to a cooler setting. My car usually sits around the half way mark at a good stop for a few minutes and sometimes goes a little over that. Well anyway i have around 220000 miles on my car and i just took it around the block with a 2000 dollar machine monitoring my system and it told me that my motor is still running at approximatley 99 percent so these cars a built to handle this heat keep in mind cooler is better though.
