seawolf06 - "I wanna see how much cooler this keeps my engine before spending money on a fan switch."

A fan switch costs a grand total of $2.00. Just buy some wire and a switch. Take about 5 or 10 minutes too hook up and you are set. Do not even think about buying one of those "kits" for $60.

Re: electric water pump?

I bought the kit a long time ago and it made the wiring a hole hell of a lot easier. I believe all I had to do was plug it in and run it to wherever I wanted the switch and it was set.

Because unlike the stock mechanical one when it goes bad it just stops completely compared to just not working as efficiently or as well. No WP to flow coolant = big engine problems. My CSR has been working great for over 50k miles.

Re: electric water pump?

Less reliable...I'm not sure I'd use that wording since my one CSR has lasted longer than two GM Mechanical Pumps. Its just a different kinda of result when goes vs the other. Kinda like if your tranny starts slipping you can probably drive home like that, but obviously it wouldnt be optimum. But if you twist the driveshaft in half your not going anywhere. You can drive around with a bad stock pump and you might just run kinda hot, but if the E-WP its broken it doesnt move any water at all and youll overheat, blow a head gasket, warp the heads, etc, etc if you try to drive home.

I just wouldnt say less reliable since I drive my car about 70-100 miles a day.

Re: electric water pump?

Yeah, but my CSI (R?) that went on with the H/C went south after less than 250 miles, and I overheated. This is one of those instances where I firmly believe it just depends on whether your unit was built on wed, or Friday
Side note, my meziere that I replaced it with was a much nicer design. However, same issue as above (pot-luck reliability); some people have had problems with meziere as well.

So if you do go with an EWP, just be kind of **** about keeping an eye on your temp guage. I would still reccomend one though, my car never ran cooler.

Re: electric water pump?

I got a summit electric water pump when the stock one took a dump in my 96 Z28.... on the move... it definitly runs cooler, but in stop and go traffic, it runs up there in temp... not in the red, but definitly hot. I installed an over ride switch with a high and low over ride for the fans, so I can manually turn them on.... what a great thing, I flip it to high (even sitting still), and the temp drops to 170 like THAT!!!!. Be weary of the inline fuse, the stupid little bus fuse and holder completly melted, and made the pump stop working, I overheated. I had to cut it out and put a jumper wire in it till my "roadtrip" was done. But when I returned, I spliced in a nice inline fuse and holder I had laying around from a Line Lok kit.... Works AWESOME!!!! I would definitly do the switch over to electric!!!!
