electric water pump?

Would it be better to replace my water pump for a electric pump? This is for my 97 z28 SS. I have oil leaking from where the water pump mounts to the engine, i can buy one for $175.

Depends.... you never know how long they will last. They give you some power. They also require you to be mindful of your temp gauge. I think they are worth it.

You could always get a warning gauge if youre scared.

Email spartus@charter.net . He makes a pretty well thought out kit I hear with a buzzer and everything but he only makes them every now and then in batches. WatchDog also makes a kit. Those are the only 2 I know of at the moment.

So does mine. Takes longer for me to go into closed loop though.

Re: electric water pump?

My car runs about 210 to 220 on short trips! That seems hot to me, my v-8 s10 runs about 170. If i'm driving open highway it runs around 200, in stop and go traffic it gets around 220. I never had a truck or car that runs 220!

Re: electric water pump?

I just switched to a Meziere EWP a few months ago...It runs cooler at idle and in traffic than it ever did before, but heats up a wee bit more at cruise than before. I guess its a little hotter at cruise because the EWP turns at a constant speed regardless of engine rpm. I also got 9-10 rwhp with my combo by switching to an EWP (dynod before and after same day same dyno).

All in all I think its a good mod. A watch dog type device might be a good idea though...

I'd do the electric pump!

I have an electric water pump on my and it runs cooler, however, I have a Mez HD and it moves more water than a standard Mez.

I really like my Meziere EWP pump too. I also got 10+ rwhp with it. How much are those warning kits? I have been wondering about them.

Re: electric water pump?

i got my kit from spartus at impalassforums. I gave 57 bucks shipped, including the buzzer and all the wiring. Great deal in my opinion!
