EGR went to crap?
On my way to school this morning my SES dummy light popped up and got a code 32 (EGR recirculation). The Scanmaster shows that the EGR valve is not opening at all. Figure the sumbitch is stuck. Getting rid of it after heads this winter.
ScanMaster can't tell you the actual position of the EGR valve. It only shows you the duty cycle the PCM is asking for. The diagnostic is dependent on a change in MAP when the valve is commanded top open. Sort of a rare code on the OBD-I cars.
I had a similiar issue recently with my EGR. Valve checked good on the car (pressing in the valve caused reduced idle, close to stall) and there was no carbon buildup on the stem. Replaced the valve and it solved the problem. I didn't want to do the !EGR in case I move somewhere requiring emissions certification. Good luck with your problem.
