ok so i don't have 800-1000 to do my full exhaust but i heard that 94 z28 had crap catalytic converter & they went to better ones in 96? so i was thinking if i replace the catalytic converter & muffler comes out to $217 145 for catalytic converter & 72 for magaflow muffler is ths a wast of money or good idea. will i get hp gain off of this the cars exhaust is bone stock.

Who told you a 94 cat was crap? Mine worked fine. Aftermarket engine builder/tuners like John Lingenfelter were able to build high HP emissions certified 383's, and claimed the cat cost less than 5 HP. Do you have any indication the stock/original cat is plugged? Do you have indication of high emissions?

In 96 they went to dual cats. They went to dual cats in CA in 1995 on the auto trans LT1's.

Where are you located? CA is a problem with cat replacement. They enforce the Federal rule that the cat cannot be replaced unless it is certified defective, and it can only be replaced with a CARB approved cat.

The HP is gained in replacing the intermediate pipe with a 3" mandrel-bent pipe, rather than the stock 2.75" crimp bent pipe. Replacing the muffler doesn't do much. A full catback provides the best gains.

when i meant crap i read that they was restricted because they didn't want it to compete with the corvette ? & in 96 they put better cats on the z28s. i live in nc they said had put cats on so your says just doing a muffler & cats would be a waste of money? mines just stock i dont think its clogged or anything just was thinking outside the box & didn't wanna drop 1g on exhaust

Just changing the cat and muffler is not going to net you much of anything.

ok thxs guys ill just run the ol girl as is about to take her out as we speak. ahh she may be stock with few mods but cant beat a v8.
