Egr Pipe Or Solenoid
I don't fully understand your question the way it is worded.
There is an EGR pipe, EGR valve and EGR solenoid.

when we block off the egr system do we block off the valve and the pipe? i was just wondering because tpis sells two different blockoff plates for the lt1. thanks

You can effectively eliminate the EGR system function by blocking off exhaust flow through the corrugated tube from the #8 exhaust runner to the back of the intake manifold. Cut a diamopnd shaped blocking plate out of sheet metal, put two holes in it to fit over the two studs in the manifold, and sandwich the plate between the tube and the manifold. That way, you don't have to do anything else.
If you wanted to remove the system completely, you block both the hole where the tube from the exhaust connects, and the hole where the big black EGR valve sits. But then you will also have to block the connection on the #8 exhaust runner, and plug up the vacuum line from the EGR solenoid.
What exactly are you trying to accomplish?

The round EGR valve only has one vacuum line. The solenoid has a vacuum feed from the intake manifold and a line going to the EGR valve to operate it.
Another question would be why you want to remove it? There is no performance gain by removing it.
Since this seems to be the thread for different ways to stop the function of the EGR valve, another way is merely to remove the EGR vacuum feed hose from the manifold nipple and put a cap on the nipple. If the solenoid gets no vacuum, it cannot open the valve. As long as the valve is sealing well, it is as effective as a block off plate, but you don't even have to touch it.
i was told by removing the egr system your car would run at cooler temperatures. i don't know if this is true or not. i think i want to remove the egr pipe as well. i wasn't aware of the egr pipe going to both manifolds. anyone know what we can block the exhaust manifold side with? thanks
