Do you need to remove just the damper/pulley, or the complete assembly, including the crank hub? If its just the damper, in theory, you remove 3 bolts and pull it off with your hands. But if your car has more than a year or two of rust on it, you may need force to remove it.

Remove the three bolts on the three "arms" and see if it will come off. If not, soak the hub area well with a good penetrant like PB Blaster (WD-40 is not good enough). Then tap the inner portion of the damper with a hammer to see if it will come loose. If that fails, get a 3-jaw puller and mount it with the jaws pulling on the inside of the damper, not on the outside. Since the damper is made of two pieces, with a rubber ring in the middle, hitting the outer edge, or pulling on the outer edge can damage it.

If you are looking to pull the hub off the crank, let us know.

I cant get my harmonic balancer off unless i use a puller. Doesnt matter how long its been on. Maybe im just weak

The 3 jaw puller will work but a bolt puller works better..

On your balancer you'll notice 3 bolt holes in between the bolts that hold the balancer to the crank. They are smaller bolt holes.

This is what it looks like

Autzone has it on there rent mat. Its near the center on the bottom row of tools. Its called a harmonic puller something.

Autozone puller will work, but the bolts didn't fit. Got the right bolts from a hardware store and it worked fine. Three jaw is probably easier, and can also be used on the crank hub if you're doing anything besides just pulling the balancer to replace it.

From what I have seen, only late model pulleys have the small "puller holes" between the spokes. If they are there, you can use them. If not, then umm, you can't.

OK I see I need to get the hub off. I cannot find a socket to fit the balancer hub bolt. I have 19mm and 21 mm but no 20mm it seems like it is a 20mm bolt. None of the english sockets I have fit, anyone know the size of the bolt?
