I've heard it's a bear to install headers on an LT1. So what's the easiest ones to install? Is it possible for someone (myself) to install a decent set of headers having never done it before, let alone on an LT1?

 

All shorties require the same basic work...plug access on the other hand is a different story...

Lt's involve more work since you are removing the cat...

 

Is it easy to pass sniffer with LT's? I never get visual inspections.

How much harder are LT's to install than shorties?

 

Sounds like the Pacesetter LT's are pretty easy.

 

pass the sniffer with LT's? Wont work. Unless you get LT's l(ike FLP's ) that still uses the stock cat. Most LT's require you to remove the cat...without the cat = fail

 

I've got a cat with my Hooker LTs.

 

Was there something special or custom you had to do to get the cat on or is it supposed to fit a cat?

 

If you dont get a visual inspection, you should be able to pass with longutbes with emission fittings and a cat....atleast i hope so

 

I'm not terribly worried about passing emissions. I passed in my 91 with no cat and running rich. If I don't pass I'll go spend 300 bucks on stuff to make it pass emissions and then get an exemption and then take the items back. :P

I'm in the middle of my '94-'95 style MAC midlength header install. It is going great. See the link above.

I only had to remove 3 spark plugs. No need to remove the oil filter or jack up the motor.

They are designed to be used with a CAT, so emissions are no problem.

It's a lot of work. I have access to a lift, so that helps A LOT.

You can do it yourself, but just be prepared for a good amount to work no matter what headers you get. LT's are definately more work though than my MAC mids.

They just aren't as long as LT's. Mid's and shorties have no ground clearance issues. They normally come with the Y-pipe, so you don't need to buy or make one seperately.

There are debates over the gains of each. There have been recent threads about it. You could search about it.

MAC mids have shown 25-30 rwhp gains.
