Re: Dynoed LE1 today with alittle problem

I am not real sure what the problem is but instead of asking him to send me the springs to test or having him ship them back to the manufacturer, I just told him I will ship him a set of new ones and told him how to amke sure everything was set up correct.

Most places would not handle any warranty situation like this but a $120 set of springs is nothing compared to the customer having to deal with the warranty himself or having his car tore apart while waiting to see if the manufaturer will warranty them or not. I treated the situation like I would want to be treated if I was in his shoes.

I guess it is possible to get a bad set every now and then.

They should be fine with that cam and I suggested that he double check valve adjustment, etc when he goes back together with it. I also made sure the cam he is running was the same one that I had written in my book when he bought the heads and it was. I guess it is just a bad set but he now has a new set on the way and the info to help him check other things while installing them to make sure everything is right when it is back together.

What springs are currently on the heads? 915 Beehives?

I'll be running the the same 224/230 in my car when I get it back on the road this spring and went with the Comp 918 Beehives.. I sure hope they control float.

Re: Dynoed LE1 today with alittle problem

The heads have the CM 612 springs which have always worked well with that cam and even cams a lil larger than this. Like I said, a bad set is possible every now and then. I use these all of the time with cams similar to this with no problem and there are LOTS of these springs sold so I feel comfortable with the spring/cam combination.

Spartus,

The bee hives would work too. I would use the 918's over the 915's. Either one is safe for stock lifters and cost the same so you might as well have the added spring pressure and insurance.

I use the CM 612's for $$$ reasons. You CAN NOT get a better set of springs, retainers and locks for $120. This allows me to offer a $750 set of heads as opposed to using bee hives on all of them and charging another $120-$150 when they could get out for less $$$. I can upgrade any spring on any head for any customer if they wanted to spend the extra $$$.

I am sure that after we get the new springs on there with properly adjusted valves, we will eliminate valve float until way past the cams power band. Lots of people use these springs on this cam (and larger) with no problem so after we install the new springs, we can at least eliminate them from the list of possible culprits and focus more on valve adjustment, opti, tuning, etc.

Lloyd has treated me very well and I'm greatful for it. He has answered every question and got back to me through email faster than a speeding bullit. He has been great. I don't think any other vender would treat you like this after you had the parts on your car as long as I did. He did my heads in july of 04 and I know am telling him about this problem. He could of just said to bad but he didn't. If your going to have your heads done by anyone choose Lloyd because he will not let you down. Once again thanks Lloyd for all your help.
Joe

edit Plus not to mention the power I'm making. I made 365rwhp@5300 and 342rwtq through 2high flow cats, built 4l60with a 2800 stall and a 12bolt with 3:73's. That's with his le1 heads and a compcam 224/230 112.Once I fix the springs I will let you know the #'s.

Let us know if you screwed up, or if indeed the springs were inferior to other #612s. It's happened, but it's rare the springs would be inferior.
