Ellis, you were getting 150 miles to a half a tank? Then, thats not too bad but 150 miles to a tank like one person said, f@ck that. My friend's 99 Z28 does a whole lot better than that and has a cam and ported heads also. Maybe it's the tune, then again, that is a big cam! Is that came really that bad on gas? If Elis is getting half *** decent milage with his automatic car, then it must not be too bad.
Make sure to check MPG by counting how much you put in to fill it, versus having had a full tank previously, going to be the gauge is worthless. On my car, 1/2 tank was 1/3 full. It took about 5 gallons to get back down to the 4/4 on the guage.
My 69 Firebird got 9-13 MPG depending on city/freeway. If someone were honestly getting 150 for a whole tank, thats about 9MPG, so low I wouldn't even want to know.

The cam looks like it shows it's size in a 350 because the peak torque is kind of low. Not for the setup, especially with a cam that big, which way would the torque go though if it had a bigger y pipe and better tuning? The y pipe could lead it toward less torque but at the same time, if it's choking the engine bad, it could make more torque, even downlow possibly. How does the car feel with that setup? It seems like it might need a little bit of gear, maybe as much as a 4.30.
Speed, in my own car I stuck with stock 3.42s and made 411/385 RW. Honestly if your timing work is on, then you wont need gears with a stick. However, it would still be nice, but I didn't want to be shifting every .91 seconds either.
If I would have had access to just slightly better gas, 92/93, it would have been a beast off the line. I unfortunately was running into ping with 91 so I had to pull timing, and it felt like I lost 30# TQ with even a degree of timing pulled, what reality is I dont know but the feeling was absolutely there.

The peak torque that guy that started this post's setup was 365 SAE, meaning it has even less than that across the board. I guess that cam is big. Stock 3.42's arent good for anything in a 6 speed car, not if you are drag racing.

If you dont have the experience under your belt, then you just wont know. I made 325 RWTQ @ 2500, which is where my dyno run began. Had a nice ignition miss to boot, but I think that mostly affected WOT. With as many cars that weigh as much as the Z28, with much less power, I hardly see that a heads/cam car should suck off the line, unless the timing work is off, the cam should not surge either.

Who cares about gas milage when modding these cars. I'd rather go fast than get 30mpg, but that's just me.
Gas milage is good to have, especially if you drive the car alot, with todays technology we can go fast and get good gas milage. When I drove my 80 Z28, gas milage didnt matter, until me and my friend went to Super Chevy Show and I kept having to spend money on gas while his 99 Z28 was doing about 4 times better.
Then we went to Atlanta one year and I drove the 2.8 S-10, he still got better gas milage than me by a good margin too. Gas milage isnt that important to me but I do like to have it when I am on the highway. I dont get good gas milage the way I drove anyway.

A well tuned heads/cam LT1 should still have a nice, fairly flat torque curve. If you think its not enough for you go solid or get a blower/turbo. While it would be nice to have 500# at idle, its not going to happen NA with LT1 heads, and the cars aren't that heavy that its needed, I was happy.
