Dual cat to single conversion on a 96Z

I'm running the stock manifolds on my 96 Z. Would like to bolt up a magnaflow catbacks and do something about the cats before they decide to clog on me. Random Tech Y-pipe w/ hi-flows seems a little pricey. Is it possible to bolt up the SLP ORP for the 93-95 cars to my manifolds. If so... what else would I need to get the job done? Has anybody done this?

Why not do single cat headers. More often then not when you try to take of the ypipe you break the manifold studs and have to pull the manifolds to fix them. I would just do headers.

As others mentioned, if you are going to replace the y-pipe, you may as well do headers at the same time. The SLP y-pipe for the 93-95 will not bolt up to your manifolds as far as I'm aware of, but I could be wrong.

I did the full exhaust conversion, so you could search on my name, and something like "headers" or "MAC" in the topic.

To stay emissions legal, you need to replace with a dual cat pipe, otherwise an 'off-road' y-pipe is pretty inexpensive. I agree do the headers and y-pipe at the same time. I had gotten BBK shorty headers, and now am faced with a problem finding a y-pipe to match up to it. I probably going to settle on 2 catco cats (summit $40, ebay $30 each) and a custom pipe (150 plus est)

You can stick with dual cats. They will fit in the stock location and you can
hook it up any way you want. Catcos can be had for $80 each.

Thanks for the pics. This might be my best route. I want to stay away from the shorty headers for several reasons. 1) I have never installed a pair before, and know that it will be a pain in the @ss and I will likely have some leaks to deal with, and 2) It seems like a lot of money to spend for 5-7 RWHP.
I want this to be a fairly inexpensive exhaust build-up.

I would still like to know if the 93-95 aftermarket y-pipes will bolt up to the 96-97 manifolds. I would also like to get the magnaflow catback system. I've noticed that the magnaflow kit works with any 93-97 car, which makes me think that the kit comes w/ the S-pipe for those who have a 93-95. My ideal plan would be to buy the SLP ORP, the magnaflow catback, a couple of o2 sims and call it good, if this is possible. This would be a fairly inexpensive set up. Although, if this is possible I'm wondering why more people haven't done it. Any opinions?

If this conversion won't work (described above), what size cats do I need to order (would like to get some magnaflow cats from JEGS)? Thanks.
