Drivetrain swap

Due to the body damage to my car and not getting encouraging words from body repair shops, I'm contemplating buying a 1996 Camaro RS and swapping my drivetrain from my car to the RS. I would drop my k-frame including the engine and transmission out the bottom and swap it into the RS, then I would transfer the complete rear end and all associated parts and accessories.

The RS is a manual 5 speed but I'm thinking the M6 should mount right in.

Anyway, anyone know why this wouldn't work?

I've found a car and buying it would be less expensive than the estimates I'm getting from the body shops. I can do all the mechanical work.

Re: Drivetrain swap

You'll need the harness and PCM as well but sounds like you already know that. You mentioned the k-member, as long as you swap the transmission crossmember, I don't see why it would be problem. The wiring is usually the biggest issue.

The V8 K-member is different than the V6 K-member. It's very easy to drop the complete engine/trans/K-member/suspension /harness in one piece, roll it under the new chassis and bolt it up.

Re: Drivetrain swap

Excellente'

Besides the cost, body shops in my area are swapped and backlogged until October. Very difficult to find one that will work on older cars and they are busy too. Couple that with difficulty/impossibility of finding a quarter panel shell it just made sense to me to find another one I could move my stuff to. Will be going to view the possible purchase in a couple hours.

Lots to do but being retired I've got the time.

I've got the drivetrain in and cranking but not starting. I've posted a new post giving details. Would appreciate help with the problem.

Re: Drivetrain swap

Yeah, it's all installed. I found wiring mismatches I'm having to straighten out. It'll get done.
