Drill hole for opti vent....before or after MAF?

Have a vortech intake elbow and the hole is not drilled for the opti vent. Should i drill a hole in the intake elbow or the FIPK i have. I figure it should go before the MAF so that the MAF can still meter the "actual" airflow into the intake. What do you guys think?

Does it have to go on the intake elbow? You could always go buy a T-bar to conenct an extra vacuum line from one off the intake.

If you're going into the intake, do it before the MAF.

You want the Opti air supply line AFTER the MAF. The air leaves the elbow, goes through the Opti, and is pulled into the drivers side of the intake manifold. Since that air ends up in the combustion chambers, it needs to be measured by the MAF as part of the TOTAL air flow to the engine, so the PCM's fuel calculation can provide fuel to combine with that air.

The factory put the little blue elbow for the Opti vent line in the intake bellows (AFTER the MAF) for a reason.

Could i do as Pasky said and use one of the lines off of the intake. I have an extra 'nipple' that i plugged. I could unplug this and hook the opti vent up to intake. Would this serve the same purpose or should i just do as suggested and drill the hole in the elbow. As always, thanks.

P.S.- Injuneer, did that .csv file that i sent you work?

Re: Drill hole for opti vent....before or after MAF?

Your vented Opti needs two lines connected to it.

The line with the little blue elbow is the air SUPPLY line. It needs to pull filtered, MAF metered air out of the intake, between the MAF sensor and the throttle body. The second line, with the blue/white filter and check valve is the VACUUM line. That is the one that needs to connect to a vacuum port on the intake manifold.

Since you asked about the line that used to be connected to your intake elbow, and has no hole on the Vortech elbow, I assumed you were talking about the AIR SUPPLY line. You can't hook both Opti vent lines up to the intake manifold... you would get no air flow through the Opti.

Follow Injuneer's instructions! The intake manifold is a vacuum source (one side of the opti), you need "high pressure" source to feed it. Having both lines from the intake manifold won't flow any air (you need a pressure differential to flow air).

If you don't want to drill a hole in the aluminum elbow, drill a small hole in the rubber piece that connects the MAF to the aluminum elbow. It would seem to me you could drill a small hole for the vent in the bottom of the aluminum elbow, where it would not be visible, tap the hole for threads, and screw a fitting in there with a nipple the correct size to connect the vent hose.

I have mine mounted in my Ram Air airbox, but I don't have an MAF, so it doesn't matter where its located, as long as the connection is in an area where its close to atmospheric pressure.

This is exactly what i was thinking about doing. Thanks for the detailed explanation. It makes clear sense to me now that one line needs to be hooked up to the intake and the other to a vacuum (intake). Awesome

Injuneer,

Do you think this could have anything to do with my false lean condition that i was talking about in this thread:

http://web.camaross.com/forums/showthread.php?t=369841

Since i had the supply line just tied off and free to take in unmetered outside air, do you think it could of pulled in enough air to make the BLM's that high? Let me know what you think.
