Exclamation Door won't shut

It started with the driver side door not closing snuggly, and requiring me to reclose it. Over time it got worse; and now it simply won't close. It seems like the door jam strikes the other end too low. Does anyone know how to fix this? I need my car door to lock and close so that no one steals anything.

You can adjust the door by loosening the hinge-to-door bolts, making adjustments and re-tightening. It is just trial and error and will take a few times to get it close. Easiest if you have something under the door to support and lift it.

Nothing in particular. I used a floor jack and a block of wood under mine (under the inner, bottom of the door) to realign it after the body shop did a poor job. The farther you go out to the end of the door with the jack, the more leverage you will have. Be careful, though. The door is made out of a composite material and could crack. Support it first, then loosen the bolts. Tweak it with the jack, tighten the bolts, remove jack and test fit. Repeat until it gets better.

Check the striker (the stationary part on the jam) to make sure it hasn't loosened. If your door is aligned (not hanging abnormally) and the striker is tight, it may be the latch that has to be adjusted or replaced.

A friend had a similar problem. Everything appeared to be firmly in place etc., but the door wouldn't shut properly. Turned out that the skin had broken away from the door frame on account of a problem with the window winding mechanism. Nothing was obvious, but there sure were some problems hidden inside.

Good luck.

My door needs to be adjusted too, it's scraping the plastic piece in the door jam at the opening side. So the hinge to door bolts need to be loosened then adjusted, and not the hinge to frame bolts, is that the only thing that can affect the adjustment of the door.

I have this problem also, I have to lift my door to close it. Now should I adjust the bottom door to hinge bolts or top? Also how do you even get to those bolts on the bottom one, I sure couldn't.
