door window outer felt guides questions (shoebox??)

I'm in the process of replacing my driver side window motor, and figured I'd adjust the window for rattles and what not. I found that one of the three outer felt tip guides had deteriorated and fell to the bottom of the door. These are the felt lined guides on the outer side of the window. First off are these parts replaceable? If so, does anyone know the part numbers. And finally, has anyone had the same problem.

On a side note,
I have to say these doors are basically cheap rattle traps. I could not believe the amount of noise the lock and latch rods and assemblies make. Even the interior door handle itself is not fully secured down.. Has anyone tried to eliminate or deaden the noises from these components? I've got a few ideas but was interested in other ideas as well.

On the outside of the window, there are some rolled looking pads that are part of the seal that is on the outer top of the door. If you peel the seal back, you can see the pads down in there.
IOW, you have to buy the whole seal if your pads are gone.

It is said that the design has been revised so that the pad is continuous on the new seals. I have not seen them, myself.

Can't say I have had the same problem with rattles that you describe. Mine are pretty quiet.

Thanks for the P/N's The rattles I get occur when the window is partially or fully down. Should be interesting digging into the door some more once spring comes for real and this bloody snow melts.

Of course, the car has 150,000 miles, So by all means I do expect to have a rattle or ten.

Thanks again. I'm going to give Dal a call tomorrow for pricing on the seals.

If it rattles with the window down it's because the felt adjusters isn't pushed in far enough. There are two of these on the top of the door that adjust the tension. Loosen the bolt, push them in a little, then slam the door. It should cure, or help somewhat, the rattle. Just make sure that your window will roll up all the way because when you tighten the window guides, it makes more of a strain on the power window motor...

Been there many times, much appreciated! I was just going to refer to my helms books but your guides do a much better job of explaining the door features.

My friend had that problem and replaced the whole rubber strip. If you had one that fell off, chance are the others will fall off sometime soon. It causes rattles too when the windows down.

It wasn't that expensive either. Maybe $20?

This is true. The pad itself is a little bit smaller in terms of width, however it does run the entire length of the window. I replaced mine about 18 months ago after the windows started getting scratched. As a reference, I double checked them against my father's 2002 Z28 and they turned out to be the same...

$.02 please drive through

I have the same problem on mine, i replaced the inside guides(the ones with a bolt in them) and it didnt help, the outer ones are worn almost completely off (thanks for the PN shoebox) b/c the dealer couldnt help me out on that one. also my window rattles when its part way down or fully down, I dont know that much about windows but when lowering is the driverside window supposed to go under the guides? b/c of the express down? also could it be off the track? what do i need to do to fix this? b/c when ever i close my door with the window down it sounds like its going to shatter inside the door thanks .

i paid 30 a piece for the new seals, and they are 1 piece. My window got scratched pretty bad it still sounds like it scratches everyonce in a while when it rolls up any other ideas of what it could be. I have been thinking of just taking it to a glass shop and getting 2 new side windows and let them figure out what is scratching them.

ok, just want to get this straight. Currently I have a rubber seal on the outside of the window which has 3 felt guides placed on it (well actually two right now but thats besides the point). The new one actually has a single felt guide which runs the entire lenght of the seal?

Damn, I wish I would have fixed this years ago, maybe could have prevented the scratches on the window!
