Don't Unplug Your Batteries!!!
Don't Unplug Your Batteries!!!
Haha just kidding. I need some help though...
Recently I've been having the problem where my ABS would get all retarded and then my "low traction" light would come on. Apparently this happens pretty frequently in LT1's.
Anyways, I read in a troubleshooting guide somewhere on the internet that if you unplug the battery and then plug it back in it may fix that (i'm guessing it resets the abs computer). So I did.
Then the car wouldn't start. Starter works fine, occasionally the engine will turn over or backfire or something.
No, I didn't leave it unplugged.
The only things performed while the hood was open was me removing the positive connection, and then waiting, and putting it back on. The only thing possibly strange was that it sparked when i re-touched the connection to be plugged back in, however I considered this normal since it happens to be a device of electrical power.
My Dad sprayed engine starter in the intake and I actually got it to drive home. It had serious power issues, the car ran like absolute ****, and the engine would "cut out" if I gave it too much without a steady increase in throttle.
Info that may help diagnose the problem:
95 LT1
130k mi
There was an exhaust leak, right before where the y pipe connects to the cat. I never fixed it, and now its so bad that none of the exhaust even enters the cat. The pipe completely rusted and broke off. Its pretty ghetto, and really annoyingly loud. I know, I'm a lazy ***.
Anyways, my guess is that its related to the intake or possibly o2 sensor or airflow sensor, but what for sure, I couldn't even guess. I was just hoping a similar problem happened to someone else that would make it a likely candidate.
Thanks,
Ryan

Re: Don't Unplug Your Batteries!!!
You should always unhook the negative terminal first. That way there is no danger of creating a short to ground while you are removing it. You need to chech all of your fuses to see if you burned one up. If they are fine, you probably just need to tighten the terminal.

Re: Don't Unplug Your Batteries!!!
you have a bad connection. You should never have to spray starting fluid in your intake. If you spray just a little to much you can kiss you engine goodbye. Just reset the cable the same thing happened to me. You should alway unhook the graound to prevent sparking.
Re: Don't Unplug Your Batteries!!!
IF your battery ends up being connected 100% fine.. then... I would look at the IAT sensor / MAF / and the wires connecting to them.
Where did your dad spray the egine starter.. on the Throttle Body I hope.. if he sprayed it on the MAF or The IAT sensor, that could be your problem.
If those are ok.. re-check the battery for corrosion on the terminals, and spray them with wd-40 or some other solvent.
If that does not help, you might have a bad Opti-spark... your car DOES have 130,000 miles on it... Mine went out at 80k.. so.. you might be experiencing those symptoms. My car would BARELY start and stay running with the Bad-opti... Talk about Backfires! whew!
Hope this sheds some light.
