Exclamation Doing DMS springs, follow the haynes way or someone else's?

I just jacked the front up tonight. Pissed to find that I haven't got the torx bit to get those 2 bolts out of the driver's side shock/spring assembly.

Does anyone have a link, an install page, or something to help me go by?

Let me know thanks!

ps, i'm still searching the archives, and Brent's page shows dead links.

GMHTP shows how to do it in the March issue. According to that article it says size 45 torx for the 2 driver side bolts.

I used this link over the weekend and everything went fine. Some of the pics don't show up though, but no biggie.

oh man the front is a BIOTCH so far. the passenger side will go quicker now that i have the driver side apart.

can't wait to do the rear

When doing the rear, I host it up, once the wheels are off the ground measure the distance of the center of the rim to the wheel well/fender? or while its on the ground?

The reason I'm asking is because my GF bought me everything i need, lowering springs and an adjustable panhard bar

Makes sure your car is on a level surface and sitting on its wheels. Make yourself a plumb bob out of a piece of string and a nut. Attatch it to your inner fender lip and measure to the centercap on your wheel from the string. Adjust panhard rod until both sides are the same. Easy enough?

I just finished last weekend replacing my front shocks.
It was not too bad a job after I went to Home Depot and bought some angle iron, all thread rod and nuts, and made my own spring compressor. It worked great!!!
I have some pictures I can e-mail you if your interested.

Thanks J96Z.

I've seen a picture where they had the string on the outside lip of the fender, and measureed the top part of the rim closest to the top of the fender.

but i think i'll go the center cap route.

It shouldn't really matter where you put the string as long as you put it in the same place on both sides and measure to the same place on both sides, (i.e. center cap, fender lip). I'll be changing my springs pretty soon as soon as the Bilstiens get here. National back order until May.
