Doing away with the IN TANK fuel pump??
Doing away with the IN TANK fuel pump??
I want to replace the stock fuel pump I have now with a walbro 255LPH pump. I was wondering if I could take the pump completly out of the tank and fabricate some stainless steel lines to reach the bottom of the tank, then use a inline FP? What are the advantages of a IN TANK fuel pump? I know the advantage of a inline for me would be that I don't have to take out the tank (or do the trap door method) when I needed to change the pump. It's just a thought. I know fuel pumps don't go out that often so it's really not that big of a deal but I would still like to do it if it's easy and just as cost effiecient. Thanks.
Re: Doing away with the IN TANK fuel pump??
Inline fuel pumps don't seem too reliable, but people have done what you've mentioned.
I don't really see the point. If you go in the tank to remove the pump, you might as well replace it. Its not like the fp is a part you replace every 20k or less. You should be trouble free for a very long time with an aftermarket replacement pump. Not to mention its way cheaper and no need to fab anything.
Also, I'm not sure but you might need a sump for an inline fp.

Yea, you would definitely need to have your fuel tank sumped to do away with an intake completely and just run a hi-flow inline. If you are going to go thru the hassel of dropping the tank, purge with argon, cut, weld, reinstall tank, etc. just to have a sumped fuel tank you might as well go with a aftermarket fuel cell. I don't think aftermakert intanks have a problem supplying enough fuel for insane power.
