does vats control the starter?

My car wont start. It was running and I noticed my volt meter was dead. I thought maybe the gauge was out. Shut the car off and now it won't crank at all. NO click, no nothing and the volt gauge is still dead. I tried to get Walmart to duplicate my key this morning, but it wouldnt fit it their machine. I wonder if they damaged the pellet in the key trying to put it in the machine. I check the wire to the alternator and it is good. What do the volt gauge and the starter have in common so I know where to start looking? Everything else works fine -radio, windows, etc...

Sounds like ur alternator went out and drained ur battery. A friend of mine had vats problems and his car wouldnt do anything. no click or anything.

VATS will keep it from cranking, but won't affect the volt gauge. A security light would indicate a VATS problem.

Sounds like a fuseable link may have burned up. Have you checked the starter wiring?

FIXED! It was a blown fuse that goes to the gauges. I replaced the fuse and it starts right up!
