Does trouble code 26 enable 'Limp home' mode?

I just finished a 93 LT1 383 buildup and started it up the other day. I'm running 42lb injectors and have the computer programmed accordingly. The car seems to start and run fine, but it smells a little rich. I'm also getting a code 26 and the electric fans run all the time. I'm wondering if this code is causing the car to run in limp home mode?

If it is running in 'Limp Home' mode I'm assuming it would be ruuning on the stock injector constants since it ignores the programming in the chip? I don't want to keep running the car like this and risk washing down a cylinder from it running too rich.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Rob

Code 26 is the evaporative purge control solenoid circuit. You might want to check the lines running to and from the EVAP cannister as well as the solenoid electrical connection.

Thanks, I had seen that it was a code for the EEC solenoid.I'm just wondering if having this code set enables limp home mode? The cooling fans run all the time right now and I was wondering if that is a sign it is running in limp home mode or just a result of the check engine light being on?

I don't think the EVAP system would invoke "limp-home" mode. The fact that your cooling fans run all the time makes me think that the coolant temp sensors are toast, or you left them unplugged. Check all of your sensor connections and if they look ok, then try and reset your PCM by pulling the battery fuse for a couple a minutes. There could also be a lot of trapped air in the cooling system. How is the temp gauge looking?

Good luck.

The fans come on because of the code. It does not cause the limp home mode to come on. The fans are programmed to come on if there is any code that comes up. I have had a code 26 for about 3-4 months now and my fans always stay on. It was great for summer, but the car really smelled like gas all the time. You really don't need to fix it if you can deal with the smell and don't have emissions coming up anytime soon.
