Question Modded car runs better w/o HYPERTECH tunning?

I thought this is kinda of weird that the car ran better (I dont know if its faster or not) without the tunning on. The car has the following mods:
ram air
ported maf
52mm tb
ported& polished heads& intake
1.6 rr
11:2:1 compression
headers
dynomouth exhaust
STOCK cam though.... (I'm gonna get one soon)

I'm thinking if waiting to get tunning AFTER i get a cam.
But w the mods I have do you think I should use the tuning or leave it off?

Does anyone actually know what Hypertech Powertuning does to the fuel/timing curves? I figure they would lean out the fuel a little and add a bit of timing to conpensate for stock programming being rich and retared. That should in theory add power, should it not? How is it different from a mail order tune for example, for a stockish vehicle with some boltons. Obviously, no cams and stuff. Thanks.

it doesn't tune anything. A/f is uneffected.

Then what is the point of a Hypertech Powertuning? I had one, bought it used to correct my gear ratio when I got 4.10s, but when I broke them, I sold it. Now that I am getting them again, I am going mail order tune.

It does something allright:

EGT w/ HPP performance tune = 1,600 deg. ( WAY LEAN)

EGT w/ stock programming = 1,400 deg ( perfect)

They lean the crap out of the car and that is all they do!!!!

My old car w/ thier performance tune ran 3 tenths slower than with stock programming!!

Ohhh, they change the a/f ratio all right. Two different friends from my car club have dynoed w/ HPP on their cars w/ wideband. One saw a 17:1 a/f ratio at WOT, the other around 15:1. LS1 cars, but you get the idea.....they took their programming off ASAP when they found that.

I've heard of other cases like this. You average person usually sees the same or diminished performance w/ the power programming.

I tried the HPP powertuning when I had the thing, and I gained a tenth consistent. However, my altitude is high and air is lean. It runs fairly rich stock. This time though, I am getting Brian at PCMFORLESS to write me a programm.

Thx for the replies, yea it seems to run a lot better but it does not have the throtle response it had before. Gas millage is better though. I was also looking on WS6.com and that guy gained 5 RWHP on a stock car, but i think since mine is modified, it is hurting the performance.

I'm still fighting with this issue of weather or not i should use the Hypertech..... My car runs EXTREMLY rich with and with out the hypertech. It does seem to run better without the tuning but it does have better throtle response with the tunning. My MODS are listed in the 1st post. i emailed Hypertech and the guy there told me IN GENERAL the hypertech leans out the AF.

TILL I get new programing shoud i use the hypertech programing or not??????
THx

How can you say it does nothin, it works with the computer, its a piggyback system it advances timing and in that, add power .i bet a number of you dont have the mods you say you do because you could never run 11.5:1 comp with no2 on a chipped car...it would run to lean and cause detantion even with 110 octan. i have it and ran faster at the track, faster equals more power. all im saying is a computer does adavance timing = more power and i know 100% that the (afr) is changed.
