Does this sound like a good deal for 383 machine work

I went and got an estimate from a local shop here in Toledo that builds some race motors, heres what he gave me:

1. Bore and hone .030-------------$180
2. Degrease and inspect----------$130 (shouldnt need to but not sure yet, new block from Jason Short, havent seen it, he said its been degreased)
3. Resurface-------------------------$100 (same as above)
4. Balance assembly----------------$220
5. Clearance for 6" rods-----------$75 (same as above)
6. Reassemble shortblock---------$250 ($300 if I get cam installed and degreed, dont think I need to though, I can do that myself)

how do those prices sound? I know those few things I shouldnt need to do since Jason did them already, but he priced them anyway just incase.

yea, those prices are pretty much normal. Not a great deal but not too expensive either.

Most places pretty much charge similar numbers for machine work, the only real way to get a discount is have them build ur motor and order the price and u get a small price breaks at some places.

What about having the mains aligned?

That should be considered too in my opinion. Was that included in there somewhere?

In the mean time, be rinsing the block with Castrol SuperClean and then spray it with oven cleaner while the block sits in the sun. That will get the vast majority of your grease off.

That wasnt included in there (having the mains align bore/honed), should it be? Is there a way to check to see if it needs done?

It needs to be done IMO....usually cost about $125 to line hone them.
