Do you need to degree the LT4 hotcam

Just bought the LT4 hotcam kit, Does this cam need to be degree'd. This is the first time i have installed a cam into a LT1 engine. I've done alot of other smallblocks!

thanks

You just need to line up the dots on the timing sprockets when you put on the chain...

You can degree it to see if the cam is equal to the given specs on the card. It can only be installed with the dots lined up, otherwise it will throw the opti off.

Mine is degreed 2.5 points.
Done by an old school engine builder that built well over 2500 engines in his life time. Computer tuning makes everything run perfect.

If you think about that for a minute, you will find that the opti signal is driven from the the cam (cam itself). If the cam is 'off' in relation to the crank, which btw, is the reason you 'degree' a cam, (to have the cam in sync with the crank) the opti signal will also be off (not in sync) in relation to the crank. Go ahead and degree the cam.

Just my .02 cents but, the actual definition of degreeing a cam is to varify the intake and exhaust opening and closing points, not to nescesarilly change anything. But if (on an older small block) you were going to advance or retard the cam install, this would be the time that you would do it. Prorac1
