Do you have to have a good opti to run LTCC?

I was thinking about doing the LTCC conversion but I was unsure if you have to have a good opti to start with. If anyone could help me out it would be greatly appriciated. Thanks

The optical cam sensor in the opti still needs to be good, since that is what the pcm uses to calculate when to fire a particular cylinder.

Ahh thats what I was thinking but wasnt 100% sure. The optical sensor is what actually goes bad in an opti isnt it?

Yes. Many times oil/dirt will get inside, or simply oxydation which may lead to your opti's failure in the first place. If the sensor has been compromised, the LTCC won't help.

Like Javier said it isn't 100% that it is the sensor. The problem maybe just with the cap and rotor. shoebox has some good stuff on his site for test if the opti is giving the correct information to the pcm.

http://shbox.com/1/4th_gen_tech2.html#opti_test

The test connector for the opti is the 4 wire connector mounted by the evap along the passenger side of the intake manifold. I would run shoeboxe's test on the opti before you give up hope on it.

Actually from what I have read the cap and rotor are most likely the failure points instead of the optical sensors. If the opti part is in fact bad, you may be able to pick up a used one real cheap.

Just do what I did, buy a brand new Opti, open it up, and cut off the rotor Nothing like killing a brand new part.....it was fun

You can get the Lower part of the opti from O'Reillys for less than 200$
