10 Sec 383 Possible For Everyday Driver?

Re: 10 Sec 383 Possible For Everyday Driver?
Anything is possible with enough money.
10 seconds NA, or will you use nitrous/FI?
How rough an idle are you willing to tolerate?
Does it have to run 10's on your street tires, or will you swap slicks when you get to the track? (10's on Nittos is a lot harder than 10's on slicks).
Are you looking for 10.9 or 10 flat?
You will need a rear end.

If it's NA, a big question is how far you are willing to go on weight reduction. For a 3,700lb combo you will need about 600rwhp, which is just not gonna happen NA for any practical amount of $$$. If it's 3,300lbs, 500rwhp ought to do it. Not an easy or cheap situation, but far more feasible than 600. OTOH, with a power adder (or two) it's a different situation.

That's what i was getting at with the diet. To get to a 10 sec car on an NA setup, he would have to lose a LOT of weight. IMO even 500rwhp would be pretty hard to accomplish without a big roller cam and a super vic intake at the minimum. Now if you just wanna run 10s at the track on nitrous, that is much easier. just get a new rear end with better gears, tget that tranny built, and spray your way to 10s

i think you could build a decent 383 get some mid low 11s out of it and still have it driveable... then just spray it for your 10s... you probably wont even have to spray much.
but just building the motor isnt going to get you 10s, you will probably spend more money on the tranny and rear end getting them to take the abuse then the motor itself.

im hopin with my current setup plus a 150 wet shot but im auto sooo im thinking of going with a 12 bolt from moser and im wondering what type of gears for that for everyday driving on street tires but slicks at the track i really dont want to sacrifice top end and as far as cash i have about 6000 to dump into my tranny and rear

Re: 10 Sec 383 Possible For Everyday Driver?
I drive mine everyday.
But seriously its a mid 11 second 3600 plus pound car n/a, with a mild 80 shot it hits high 10s. (but we won't tell my local friends that)
With a 12 bolt some real slicks and an aggressive launch I could hit lower 11s with the same power now.(it traps 117-118 n/a) My present 60 foot times are 1.75 to a 1.68 very best on crappy M/T Sportsman Pros.
I also leave the shifter in "D".
