Do Not Buy Other Ngk Plugs !!
This is crazy, on all the other lt1 forums anytime someone asks what plug to use on stock aplication everyone says tr55s.This is the first time I ever seen a post where people where having problems with plugs(besides installing them) let alone the tr55s.
I'm running the TR-55s in mine, however, I have a misfire problem that I have yet to locate...
This sheds light on a new possibility, interesting... I'd like to hear what the NGK tech's reason for not using the TR-55s or TR6s is...

I have no clue what the TR55 "GP" is, but I know this:
I've been running the standard TR55 in my black car for over two years now with no problems stemming what so ever from the plugs. My other car has had them for who knows how long under the previous owner, and no problems there either.
Frankly, so long as they're available, I plan to keep using them. Summit isn't your only choice for buying those. Most of the board sponsors whom are parts vendors carry them too.

Like most phone techs for companies he's probably not that educated about his company's products. NGK just wants to use a double platinum plug because that's what came from the factory. Most plug manufacturers push for you to use platinum plug in an engine that came with them from the factory. NGK wouldn't want an idiot to use their copper plug in a car that originally came with platinums and then follow the manufacturer's 100K mile replacement interval. When the plugs crapped out early it would make NGK look bad. Therefore they want you to use an oem equivalent plug.
Not to mention the fact that platinum plugs are more expensive.

Ya well my NGK plugs melted.....and another pair just stopped working. I will never buy NGK EVER again. But if they work for you then that is great they just don't work for me.
Oh ya and I went to the dyno with some NGK plugs that were new at the time and the graph was all choppy. I replaced them and the graph looked smooth.
-Something to think about
-oh ya and they were gapped right and all that...the guy who helped me build my motor did it for me..

NGK has stated that other plugs may work but are not recommended and you may experience issues, similiar to my missfire.
Just last week I had an issue with my NGK on cylinder number one. The inside porcelain insert cracked from the tip down ... I dont know how far.. but the car began to backfire through the mufflers real bad. all the other 7 plugs were in perfect shape but this one looked as if the center electrode expanded so much that ended up cracking the porcelain. The plug had all kind of dry deposits that look like rust but of different color...
Also I found 3 needle size punctures on my #8 spark plug wire but the sparkplug itself look completely normal so I dont think there was any high voltage flashing out of the wire... I had alreay look for fireworks at nite and with a mirror too so I am like 99 percent positive it wasnt leaking high voltage.
I replaced only one spark plug to make sure that was my problem and not my old opty.... I posted a previous message with the Heading "it was NOT my opty"
My car is running sooo smoth again with only that one plug changed.... so thats it guys, thats my experience with NGKs

Being in the Auto Parts business for over 30yrs and selling NGK plugs for almost that long I have used them for years as a problem solver when other plugs have failed to do the job.The 2002-2003 catalog lists 4 plugs that can be used in the 93-97 Camaro LT1 the TR55 the TR55gp which is single platinum, the PZTR5A-15 Which is the original style platinum and the TR55IX which is the Iridium plug. All these plugs are the same heat range but are built with different materials. When you make changes to your stock motor you may need to change heat ranges. My LT1 race motor has AFR heads and I use R5672-9 NGK racing plugs and put 2 seasons on them (220+ runs) I hope some of this helps.I also ran Bosch Plat+4's in it before the engine rebuild and had no problems with them .
This is funny to see all this AC/NGK bashing! I just changed the plugs in my truck to TR6's. Come to find out when I pulled the stock plugs that one side of the plugs said AC Delco, the other said NGK. So either NGK is making these plugs for AC or vice versa. How about that????
FWIW, I work for the largest parts store chain in the US (NAPA) and have known many Reps for plug companies. What is interesting is that Champion (Federal Mogul) makes plugs for virtually all plug companies out there (Autolite, AC, Motorcraft, etc.). So what is really in a name?
I say just use what you want and what ever works best for you. Everybodies experiences are going to be different. There are many other variables involved besides the plugs.

This is the first time I had a plug failure of this kind since I owned any car and I have used from the cheapest and to as expensive as the Bosh 4 plats. One time " I " did crack one insulator my self but other than than I never have had this kind of failure before.
As for whats in a name if they are manufactured by the same company?? Well how about the design? Not all designs are created equal or how about a bad Batch of plugs? or even too much gas in my number one cylinder? the fact is that no other plugs I have used have cracked on me at all.
My sparkplug failure was real and I continue to use NGK for the moment. if I experience a second sparkplug failure I will be first one to post it here. Thats what this website it is for isnt it? To share experiences or not? so when you come around saying "all this bashing" it sounds to me you are the one "bashing me" for posting about my sparkplug failure and only because it was an NGK plug.
My two cents

I bought my 93 T/A in Dec of 93 and in around June of 94 I switched to TR55 NGKs I have run them since and have run them in my 97 since I bought it , no problems I also regap mine before installing and make sure not to over tighten and crack the porcelin on install.
