I just bought my LT1 car a year ago. Paid a whopping $3500 for it. I bought it because an LSx car costs way too much $$ for what you get over a LT1. Easily 2x what I paid for a beat to cr*p LS1 car. The heads flow a ton better and the motor weighs a little less on an LS1. Nice to have, but for the money I'll go LT1 everytime. Don't get me wrong, the LS1 is a better motor, I just don't see paying that $$ for one.

Proplems:
Opti: Just replace it once, it isn't that hard, or replace it with a delltech.
That's about all I can come up with.

For me, I work on my own stuff, so putting an OPTI in was no big deal. Others might find it a $$problem if they take their car to the shop for everything.

Besides, the LT1 guys are way cooler than the LS1 guys. Really! No hollier than thou attitude from the LT1 people!

Yeah, I have never met an LT1 owner with a bad attitude.

Well I do have to agree with him. LS1 owners TYPICALY have chips on there shoulder, I know I know this is a broad generalization (sp?) but its just like the sterio type that us thirdgen owners have to deal with (mullet, blasting G&R and the saggy headliner) so Im sure he isnt saying EVERY LS1 owner is a ***** but the ones that are make you all look bad. Sooo I agree that the majority of the LS1 owners Ive met and run with always have some cocky responce as to why we should get an LS1.

I find it kind of funny that you suggest LS1 owners always have chips on there shoulders. I find the exact opposite to be true. Many LT1 owners seem like they are always trying to prove something to LS1 guys. I see it all of the time.

Thats the effect, the cause is the LS1 guys being cocky all the time.

I can't believe this thread is still going. Seriously it's just a money issue... LT1's = cheap and fast, LS1's = less cheap and faster. If there is any issue to go one way or another, it would have to be modding. An LS1 has a lot more to choose from, but there are still plenty of goodies for the LT1... I really don't think it's as bad as people make it out to be. Another factor is looks. I like the blown up front end of the LS1 less and less as time goes on; the LT1's just look meaner. I don't like the 97+ interiors either... although the 96 and older interiors aren't exactly beautiful either.

I say keep the Regal GS (a car that I've always liked.) Get done with college and buy a used C5 or C6 Corvette. The 3800 in the Regal is an ultra reliable engine.

I kinda have to agree with that, even though thats what the original post was about and is no longer relevant

Yep, the 3.8s are durable motors and get the job done. The S/C 3.8s are pretty fun to drive as well.

Brought this back up from the dead, after doing a search for something else. I agree the ls1 runs good and all but the lt1s can be had real cheap. Paid 2k for my Z. Plus you still got the old school sbc style motor, get tired of everyone sticking lsxs in every old gm car these days. Maybe I am old school as I have old pontiacs as well and would not put a BBC in any of them as well (Don't need one as ours runs 8s, and is a heavy car). If you want a real good bang for buck and want more, just get an old sbc, more parts (blocks, heads, etc) available than the LT1 sbc. Same thing but not reverse cooled definitly alot closer than an ls. Fact is once you go all out on a GM small block the lsx will get its a$$ handed too it buy the old 1955 sbc, WAY better heads available than for lsx. Not fiction FACT.

Give me an LS1 car, and I can get it into the 11s much cheaper than an LT1 car, all things being equal.
need i say more?
