my problems:
waterpump started leaking-51,000
opti-went at- 75K
coil-went at 75,001
rearend-went after the cam and nitto 555's aka 82000

total cost on just repairs not hp mods:
200-first summit electric water pump
250-second meizere electric water pump (dont be cheap)
500-opti
85-plugs and wires
50-msd coil-went after opti
20-new whatever coil
25-driver side header gasket
150-starter
280-auburn pro rear differential
250-differential install

total: you add it up
ok got bored so total is: $1810 in 2.5 yrs and about 27K miles.

so if I were you I would avoid the Lt1, but then again this is a 13 year old car. However I take extremely good care of my car and so did the guy before me, so If this went wrong with mine, you got to ask your self whats going to go wrong with someones car that did not love it.

Then he should also factor in the cost of a ls1 car vs. lt1 car.

No, 4th gens do not weigh 500 lbs more than 3rd gens with the same engine/tranny combo and similar options. Thats been coming up a few times on thirdgen.org and its not true. 500 lbs less than GTOs, yeah probably.

A 3rd gen with a 4th gen engine/tranny/similar options will weigh 100 lbs less on average. My 86 t/a with a 95 LT1/700r4 weighs 100-150 lbs less than my brother's 95 t/a with LT1/4l60e.

Everything on that list with the exception of the opti is just as susceptable to failure on the LS as they are on the LT1. They both have the same crappy 10 bolt, and header gaskets are a pain on any car. Coils, plugs, and plug wires are wear items and are not meant to last forever anyway. The opti is a definite sore spot on the LT1, you did however get hosed if you payed 500 for one. The quality of the Summit EWP has no bearing whatsoever on the quality of an LT1. So the Summit pump is no good, why is that a strike against the LT engine? The whole topic is pointless anyway, just buy the bodystyle you like, anything can be fast.

The lt1 and ls1 both have their advantages. The LS1 is the more powerful engine with more potential, but the LT1 feels like it has more low end and a more agressive exhaust note.Stylinh is just based on personal taste.I prefer the looks of the 98-02 camaros over the 93-97 but thats just me.If you want to build a modern drag monster go with the ls1 but if you just want a daily driving performance car with a budget go with the lt1.Both cars are to be proud of.Dont listen to any of the other lug heads on here.Buy what you want, not what they are telling you to buy.

Start reading in the dyno section on LS1tech and then get back to me if you still think the LT1 is as good as the LS1.

Well, I would hope so. I mean if the LT1 isn't as good as the LT1 now, then we will have some serious trouble dealing with the LT1 when it comes out in 2009 .
