Thanks for starting an LS1 vs. LT1 war.

i would hope that the LS series is better... becasue it's supposed to be.

but the oonly reason the LT1 still holds it's ground, because it's the last engine model that caries the signature of the SBC.

Still has better low end torque.
Wives tale. Perhaps stock for stock that is/was true (and what good is "low end torque" when it only lasts a short period of time
?) at the very beginning before many shops knew how to create power with foreign components, but that is a thing of the past...

Actually I believe that goes to the L31 Vortec 350. They used it until 2001 or 2002 in the Chevy Vans. However, unlike the LT1 which is a Gen 2, the L31 is still a Gen 1 SBC.

To the original poster, I'm looking for an LT1 Firebird. I found a salvaged '97 Silver Formula with 78k miles with Ice cold a/c, charcoal leather interior, auto/3.23 posi that I hope to buy today or tomorrow for....get this...... $2600!!!! I doubt I'd find an LS1 for that. The car is salvaged because it had a rear quarter panel accident that was repaired. I'm partial to the LT1 though. I like the way the 93-97s look and sound 10 times more than the 98-02s.

As with any engine series, LS7,LS2,LS6,LS1,LT4,LT1,L98,LB9,L69,LG4,LO3....... ......horse drawn carriage, .......caveman inventing the wheel

Im a BIG LT1 fanatic, i really could care less about getting an LSX. To me, ive spent the better of 5+ years learning, wrenching, diagnosoing LT1 to give it up. Ive got too much time into them to switch over to another platform.

LT1 or bust M/F

I was sort of in the same situation too. I'm in college. I have very little money to spend. I got an LT1 because it was $3-6k cheaper than the LS1s in my area. The last car I had was totalled from a hit and run in the college parking lot, so with that on my mind, I didn't want to spend a whole lot of money.

So yes, the LS1s are better, as they should be.

Yes, they cost more, but you're paying for the body kit and better motor.

But if you don't have alot of money to blow on a car, are just going to end up daily driving it ANYWAY, and like the styling.... get an LT1.

Oh, and get the M6 :-D

i am a lt1 and ls1 owner i love my lt1 will not sell it for the world. my lt1 went 13.9 with an a4 and 2.73, cai and flowmaster muffler, has 156k on it now and still runs good, so if i had to choose i would buy a 97 lt1 m6.

Definitely have to agree with you on that. LT1s own the LS1 for sound/intimidation.
LT1 has a better looking and more agressive front end imo.

Either way... when the new Camaro comes out we will all be forgotten.

Not evryone feels that way. Even if the new/old body style Camaro had an LS7 I would prefer a 4th gen. I'm glad the Camaro name came back, I'm hoping it does well enough for them to make a 6th gen that doesn't use an antiquated 60's bodystyle.

If you know what your doing, and want to go fast cheap, then the lt1 is the way to go.

then buy one and shut up. you telling anyone that the heads flow better, is like telling people the sky is blue. sell your car, then buy a ls1 and drive it off a cliff.

That's about I can think of for now...

But if you plan on modding the car, I wouldn't complain about performance... the car's only as good as it's mechanic. The LT1 is a very powerful engine with the right combination put on it. I don't know why some guys wished they had an LS1 on here so bad.

Bingo. I think that says everything that needs to be said. Some lt1's run like dog **** for whats done to then, why? The owners.

How is it the cars fault that you screwed up? Were you not going pretty much 12 flats with just a cam? Then you rebuilt the top end with LE stuff, and messed it up while putting it back togather. So when it blew up its the engines fault? WTF?

I don't think he is placing fault on the engine, I think he is simply stating that mod for mod, the LS1 would be ahead in terms of power.
