Ok..I have had a stock 96ta m6, a pretty modded 97 ta ws6 m6, still have a fairly modded 99 ta ws6 m6 and also still have a 96 z28 vert.
I have raced almost every one of those cars against buddies cars and am in a local f body club.
And I have lost many times with my 99 ls1 to slower near stock ls1s and to a few lt1s.
Now there are tons and tons of variables here making straight up comparisons pretty useless most of the time.On the street..well
faster car often doesn't win ,especially when people are driving manuals.
You can easily short shift, hit the 3 to 2 ,hit the rev limiter, drop the clutch too high and spin them right off or bog the car really bad.Lt1 aren't as fussy to launch as ls1s I find and more likely to spin not bog.
Now tires are critical and make huge differences also in who wins a straight race to the end type of thing.
But looking at track times at our local crappy and 1900 feet above sea level track with usually pathetic density air and the ls1s stock are faster for sure than any lt1 I have seen.Stock lt1s at our track almost never even break 13s on street tires.Ls1s can have trouble doing it but are usually in that 13.6 or so range. My verts best so far at that track on nittos with a crappy 2.18 best due to zero track prep was 14.3 at 96mph.Buddies mildly modded ls1 with longtubes and basic bolt ons but no heads or cam or any hardcore stuff did about 107mph and 13.6 or so.I almost beat him one race where he spun them off and ran a 14.2 to my 14.4 but our mph was like 10mph apart!!
I guess a light car can do those mph at a near sea level track ,might even get negative density air day.And of course every hundred pounds is like a mph.My vert was like 3825 raceweight with me 230 pounds/quarter tank and spare out.Buddies similarly modded 94 z is like 300 pounds lighter and he does like 99 mph. These times are local and not corrected to seal level. That would be around 102 or 103 corrected and we both had catbacks, air induction, airfoil, ile bellows and thats about it.So could see headers and rockers adding maybe 3 or 4 mph.107mph at a near sea level track and a couple more mph if you could get under 3500 or so with driver to 3300.
As for straight roll ons on the highway with my stock ls1 versus lt1 it was a massacre and stock does mean stock,no headers, cold air, just the way the car came from the factory. In fact my stock m6 ls1 was so much faster in rollons than a buddies stock lt1 that he made me pop the hood and hatch and insisted on checking for my nitrous system.
My first lt1 96 ta felt like freak that car just seemed super powerful but unfortunately never did get to test it out thoroughly. My 97 felt wicked fast with the 4.10 I threw in there but it actually slowed down with those gears on the street tires.
Anyway guys they are both great engines and I love my vert and my ls1.Both can be made wicked fast.Just spend money!! And if you want to consitently beat m6 guys just buy and auto, throw in a nice stall and some nitto drags and there you go.M6 cars suck for 1/4 mile racing.!!

Oh yes, im being a jack ***, I forgot the light weight of my vehicle must be 800 lbs lighter because im trapping 8mph more than a fourthgen. Get a fricken clue. Even my buddy who has an LT4 in his thirdgen says thats above average when his was still an lt1. Im not worried about it anymore its cammed.

It is not uncommon for a LT1 with the kind of mods you have done to trap those numbers. More LT1's have done it than yours.
Does that unbaffle you?
Re: Do I have a freak LT1 or what?
Above average does not=freak. In fact, there are no "freaks". The faster cars were just built closer to what gm intended. There is no accident in assembly that makes a car faster.
It isn't impossible to trap these speeds with bolt ons, just not the norm. Plus, when you average, you have to include all these bolt on LT1s running 100 or less.

Re: Do I have a freak LT1 or what?
I know of an LT1 4th gen that trapped nearly 107mph w/ stock manifolds, stock rockers, and stock cats all in place. But... That was like 5 years ago. Old news.....

I understand, maybe im coming off as boasting to everyone? I just wanted to know of some possibilities and if it was normal. I feel its settled. I just got a strong motor.
