That was last night, the radar wasn't off either, the run before it I trapped 108.77mph. That same run was vs a LT1 4th gen who ran a 14.03 and he only trapped 100-101 (don't have the slip here at work). Im not burning out because their brand new tires, trying to find someone with some drag radials I can borrow for a run until I can buy some of my own for my crappy rims in the garage. I can't believe it trapped so high, I was hitting 107mph shifting at 5200. I changed the shift point to 5500 and trapped 109. My 60 ft is killing me though. All that is done are SLP 1" 5/8 shorties, 3 inch pipe, tune and 1.6 rr's. Im starting to think someone might have ported these heads. Whats up with this beast? Im thinking I can hit the 11's with just bolt ons when the CC306 goes in this Friday. Believe the track elevation is 900 ft above sea level.

 

Sounds like the car is running strong, but thats not unusual as far as I have seen.

Your short times are inflating your mph. If you cut a 2.0, I bet your mph drops 2-3mph or more. But if you do that, you might squeak into the 12's

 

very unlikely for a stock LT1 to be running 109mph in the quarter. There was a guy locally that thought he had a freak too until he pulled the manifold and found out his "stock" LT1 had headwork done to it much to his surprise. If your car is running that fast in the quarter I suspect there is more under that hood than you think...

 

That may be it, but like I said, the guy next to me in the fourthgen was spinning as much as me and he only trapped 99-101 mph. I got his 60' on my slip and believe it was like 2.4 or something. Im pulling the intake off this Friday to find out. I bought the engine from Cleveland Pick-A-Part junkyard, came with the t-56. Even at 107mph, thats impressive for what I have done to it. Especially on shorties.

 

Apples and oranges? You have a gen 3 platform and so I don't know how too many on here can answer your question. You could have just as well put an Lt1` in a neon and I'm sure you'd get different results.

While not at all conversant with Gen 3s I say there must be something advantageous about putting an Lt1 in one to get such high mph and low ets. JMHO.

 

ya i have a 97 Z28 6spd that runs 12.9 on slicks, just a catback and CAI and firberglass, mcloead clutch. haven't tore apart the motor yet over winter to see whats done but the peeps i bought it from said it was stock. so.... i'm guessing where in teh same boat and somethings done to our cars.

Don't worry about hurting my feelings, if its the spinnin I just wanna know. I don't want to claim I have a super car and its jsut another factor inflating my ego . Just trying to see if this is heard of. Does weight effect MPH?

 

Didn't intend to hurt your feelings, just saying that either you have a modified engine or your platform is significantly lighter, has a better front to rear weight ratio, better ground effects to decrease your drag, etc.

Actually, I'd guess that your 91 is even heavier than a 4 gen, but don't knnow.

At any rate those are certainly respectable numbers. JMHO

 

Well, the 91 was a v6 and it weighed in at 3100 lb's with the 3.1 in it. I would imagine it weighs about 3200-3300 right now. I only weigh about 165 lbs. Little lighter than a 4th gen. I didn't know if your remark was sarcastic or not .

 

Something doesn't look right. If the guy next to you has a comparable 60' time, and was only 0.2 seconds slower than you, there is no way that you are trapping 9 mph higher than him. It takes a HUGE hp difference to change the traps by 9 mph. At the end of the track you would have been rocketing past him. Was that the case? Sounds like the trap speed sensor was malfunctioning? What were the 1/8 mile traps and E.T.s for your two cars.

Did you always run in the same lane, or were you getting the same trap speeds no matter which lane you chose.

By the way, the launch shouldn't have any effect on your trap speed like that.

I assure you I ran on both sides of the track and was consistently trapping 107-109. No clue on 1/8, don't get those on the print outs. Im going to try to take pictures of the slips tonight. But I gaurantee there was no malfunctioning. I thought the same thing so ran on the other side of the track.

EDIT: I made about 6 runs that night.

Well, I don't know what to tell you, but it seems a little weird.

I guess if you had a better 60' time, like 2.1 or 2.0, your E.T. would be closer to 13.0, which would make sense with a 109 trap speed. So maybe everything is o.k.

Either way, I don't think I've ever seen trap speeds like that from mods like you have. That's awesome though if it's correct.

Maybe it's the lighter car?
