Do headers have to be coated? Heat bad?
Do headers have to be coated? Heat bad?
Is it worth the money to have headers coated? With pacesetters, are there problems if they aren't done? Am I going to raise underhood temps a bunch, and am I going to burn up wires?
Re: Do headers have to be coated? Heat bad?
Yes I would reccomend getting them coated....I have a friend who got the coated pacesetters and they look sweet. Reasons for getting them coated is to keep engine temps down, coated looks way better and wont rust, the overall longevity is better on the coated ones. Spend the extra and get them coated.

Yeah, I ran uncoated Hooker LT's in my 95 Z. They didn't burn any wires as I had over the valve cover wires, which you might look into anyway, but they did get hot. It smelled like cooked noodles or something when I ran the car hard, because of all the heat the headers were producing. I didn't actually have any problems because of the heat, but if I were to do it again I'd go coated.

Jet Hot claims a small performance increase due to keeping the heat in the exhaust gasses, increasing the velocity at the port, resulting in increased scavenging.
