Relieve the pressure on the back, and undo the gas cap. You dont need to pull the lines, either way fuel is going to leak out. However, I find it much easier to work with injectors and clips with the fuel rail removed, since leaning over the car kills my back after awhile.

There's a clip that holds the hardlines at the back of the manifold to the manifold. This clip needs to be unbolted. Then you can remove the 4 rail hold-down bolts and lift the rails off the manifold, flip the rails over and remove the injectors. No need to release the fuel line connectors.

However, you do need to relieve fuel pressure at the Schrader valve, and you need to have a rag and a pan ready because there will be a lot of fuel draining out of the rails when you pull the injectors.

You can do it, but why? The fuel line disconnect tool will cost you very little and is available at many auto parts stores. I think that you will have an easier time of it disconnecting the line....
...and hey more tools is always good

alright got them changed without the fuel line tool

now got another question/problem... i have replaced the stockers wiht 30# ford red top injectors which dont have grooves cut for the clips. i have noticed that you can move the injector up and down between the rail and intake so im not real sure which end needs to be bottomed out or should i just try to center the injector? i have already checked for leaks by priming the system but fuel got all over so isnt not easy to tell if its leaking.

im sure it is a cheap tool but driving 10 minutes out of the sticks isnt worth the trip if i can do it another way.

I feel your pain Turbo_Z! I've got a 25 minute drive.

So are you saying that your injectors are just kind of "floating" right now between the fuel rails and manifold?

theres just some play in then where there wouldnt be if i could attach the clips. im just not sure if the bottom of the injector needs to be pushed down all the way or if the top of it needs to be pushed up all the way OR just centered.

You don't need the clips, but the injectors do need to "pop" into place in the rail and in the manifold. I'd recommend lubing the o-rings with motor oil so they slip in easier. I haven't had clips on my car for over 10,000 miles, FWIW.

I put some Marvel Mystery Oil on the o-rings so they would slip in easier and to preserve the rubber somewhat but it still took some finangling (sp?), maybe try tapping the fuel rail with a rubber mallet lightly above each injector to help them in.

the verdict...

after a little tuning( only changed injector constants) the car might feel a bit stronger. my car has nearly every bolt-on short of a larger throttle body. something interesting i did notice was that i got ZERO knock retard!! what im thinking is that since i only got knock retard up around 5k rpm that it was because i was running lean... out of fuel up top. with the edition of these larger injectors... i had plently of fuel so i wasnt going lean. this is only my theory but interesting results nontheless.
