When testing the coil (according to Shoebox's website) what are the setting that your multimeter shoudl be on? I have one, with four plugs on the bottom, adn then 4 different settings on a dial... anyone know?

I'll give it a shot here...
you want to be able to measure about 6-12000 ohms, so whatever the four ohm settings are on your meter pick the one in that range...
My meter has:
200 ohm
2000 ohm
20000[20k] ohm
200000[200k] ohm
2000000 [2000k] ohm
on my meter you'd use 20000[ or 20k]on the ohm scale
[your scales may differ but u get the idea]

Now the 'plugs at the bottom'
One is generally for a 'common'[black plugged in that one]
Then the red lead can go in either a: 'volt' 'ohm' or 'Ma' [milliamp] hole.
Or red into an 'amps DC' hole[mine is a 10 amp DC hole]
[Not sure what a fourth hole might be.....]
Most meters I see have 3 holes... then maybe a 'plug' for testing transistors?[with like 8 lil holes , and labeled NPN and PNP..]
You would plug red into 'ohm' labelked hole, and black into the 'common' plug hole...

Post back what the holes are labeled if you need more help..
Also, post the scales your meter has for more help if you didn't understand the above?

The Dial has 4 settings, DVC, ACV, OHM, and BATT/DCA

the plugs at the bottom are labeled

1. V/ omega sybol
2. COM
3. mA/Batt
4. 10A

im sure COM is common, mA is milliamp, V is Volt, and the 10A is for amps

but, which ones should i use to test the opti per shoebox's instructions?

If your testing resistance then you use the black lead in the COM connection and the red one goes in the V/ Ohms (omega) symbol.
