Delteq pros and cons...

Just wondering who has this system and could tell me a little bit about it .
1- How reliable are they and is it worth changing the stock set-up if the opti does kick out ??

2- I was reading on the webpage that if your opti does die, you still might have to buy a new opti just for that delteq kit to work or could you just clear the code somehow and not buy a new opti ??

3-Does some or any current still pass through the opti ? Also, i have a 97 z28 so where would it fitup in my engine bay??

4-Is it only available by delteq.com or could you get it somewhere else??

any input/pics plz !!

The Delteq requires the optical sensor signals from the stock Optispark. It does not route the spark kthrough the high voltage section of the Opti. So... if your cap/rotor is bad, but the optical sensor is still good, you can use the Opti. Clearing the codes will not solve the problem.

elitesparkplugs.com is a board sponsor and sells the Delteq.

You should also look at the LTCC system from Bailey Engineering. Similar concept, but uses 8 LS1 style coils, rather than the 4-coil pack from the Northstar.

If there is one bad thing to say about Delteq, it is the fact that for more than 2 years they have been promising a "stage 2" that completely bypasses the Opti, but its still nowhere to be seen.

Re: Delteq pros and cons...

I've been using the Delteq for over a year now with no down side at all. My car was running like crap and was missing real bad. With 110k on it, I still had the original Opti that had gone through two water pump baths. I'm still using that same Opti and she purrs like a kitten.

If your getting codes for a high or low res failure, you will have to replace the Opti as you pickup is going. But these type failures are sorta rare.

What I'd really love to find out is if an Accel Dual Sync distributor is compatible with an LS1 PCM. With a little ingenuity, you could chop the cap and rotor section off the top and fabricate a custom cover, which would make the distributor short enough that it would clear the cowl panel. Then do the distributor part of the LT1 intake conversion. (www.lt1intake.com) With the dual sync taking care of the sensor end of things, and the LS1 PCM taking care of firing the coils, the opti would no longer be needed. A cool possibility would be having the ability to swap in a SBC and run it off of a stock LS1 setup.

I guess it's already been established that the dual sync isn't compatible with the LT1 PCM because the resolution requirements are too high. Anybody know if it'll work with the LS1 PCM?
