Delteq problem...HELP!!!

Just curious if anyone might know, but I just bought a used Delteq from a board member, and my car ran like crap after I put it on. It would struggle and cut out below 2000 rpm, but be fine and smooth above there, but only at part throttle. If I nailed the gas, the car revs, pops, stutters, and runs like crap. I was hoping it was the opti, but I took off the Delteq and the car ran beautifully with the factory ignition. WTF is wrong here?? Bad coil? Bad ignition module? Don't know if this is it, but when I got the Delteq, the ignition module looked like it was damaged (cracked or something), and it had been repaired with silicone sealant. Any clues??

Re: Delteq problem...HELP!!!

Double check your wires and make sure they line up with the correct number on the coil packs, maybe you have the wrong cylinder hooked up to the wrong coilpack and its casuing a misfire. Do you have a pic of the delteq box? You said it looked like it had been repaired with silicone....when I got my new delteq the deltew box had a bead of silicone inbetween the box, apparently just normal construction, so hopefully your box is ok. Double check the wires and let us know. Goodluck!

Re: Delteq problem...HELP!!!

Well the thing is, I double & triple-checked my wires. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the Delteq 3 times now. I KNOW they were right. With the Delteq, the car runs beautifully between 2500-5000rpm, but only @ part throttle. There isn't a single miss. If I go WOT, it pops and surges. Also, if I'm in any gear below 2000rpm, it struggles to rev like it's choking or something. In neutral it seems to rev fine. Occasionally (in neutral) it will pop and miss at random rpm's. As for the box, it had the factory white sealant, but it had some black silicone crap slapped on one side, like it was some half-*** repair job.

Re: Delteq problem...HELP!!!

Hmmm, you might wanna give the guys at Delteq a call and describe your problem. Maybe the box is broken, I know they carry a 1 year warranty on the product so maybe you can get another one sent to you for free. Since you say the car only runs crappy with the Delteq on I assume something must be wrong with the system, which could only be the box, coilpacks or the ignition module on which the coilpacks sit on.

I emailed both Pete and JC. If I don't hear a response soon, I'll just call them.

JFYI: I personnally do not buy used electrical parts... Unless your 100+ 10% sure it is functioning correctly, or you know ahead of time, that there is a problem that can be fixed.... Good Luck...

Re: Delteq problem...HELP!!!

I got a reply from Peter, and apparently, he said that they have three versions of the optibox, and on the older LT1s (non-vented opti), they require a special box. I'm going to give him the serial # tomorrow and he's gonna let me know if I have the wrong one...

Re: Delteq problem...HELP!!!

Glad to see you are hopefully making progress. My 94 has the light on the optibox and my car is an unvented opti. Maybe a new optibox will fix your problem. Goodluck!
