Re: oil question.

I'd just change the oil and filter. Royal Purple may be great, but I'd just go with a less expensive 10W-30/40 dino oil. A good quality dino oil will be less expensive. Synthetics may not break down as well, but they still get dirty, since that is what they do in additon to lubing the engine, i.e, remove dirt, cantaminations, etc.

Re: oil question.

ATF does not have the detergents many believe it does so the only benifit it can have as a flush is it's low viscosity. Seafoam consists of mostly naptha and isopropal alcohol, does that really sound like something you want in your oil? Better to do a 1K mile change with a cheap dino if you think things got dirty. RP isn't as good as their advertizing suggests, not that it is that bad either but if you want to continue using it consider going to the "race" stuff over the street stuff.

Re: oil question.

I used seafoam on my motor... it had around 130K miles when I did it. I didnt pour it in the crankcase though... I took off the vacume line, and "fed" it seafoam. I did it for 1 1/2 cane of seafoam. The car will bog down, but keep feeding it, just barely letting the car run, it will be ideling and surging... this is normal. TONS AND TONS of white smoke will be coming out of the exhaust... no big deal. When your almost out of seafoam, give the engine enought to kill itsself. Let it sit for 20-30 minutes, allowing the seafoam to sit on the heads, ect... Then start the car. It will be hard starting but will eventually run. Change the oil after 1500 miles. I picked up some ponies, and got better gas mileage. Also might help if you disconnect the battery and allow the computer to reset that way it gets all the new air/fuel mix ratings to help with gas mileage.

Before asking whether (or what) to go with to do drastic cleaning, don't you think it is important to have more info to work with? How many miles are on engine? For all we know, you've got 15 thou on the odometer. Your oil is dirty, what filtration system is in place? How often is IT serviced? Therer ARE filtration systems available that WILL keep the oil clean looking. How serious are you, in keeping your oil cleaner looking? AFAIC, you haven't given us much to go on. The more one learns about a subject, the more important the details become.

Re: oil question.

I'd consider using a quality high (if quality, most are) detergent dyno oil, such as Castrol and change it in 2000 mile increments. You could consider a AC 'UPF' filter, if available, but not inexpensive. A low price (made in Mexico) but a quality filter option (especially while changing often), would be the 'Super Tech'. I'd consider changing filter in between oil changes. A good oil will suspend the dirt until the filter extracts it. If oil stays dirty, consider a more efficient filtration system. The ultimate would be the Amsoil filtration system. Big bucks, relatively speaking. An option would be the 'strong arm' designated cleaner route. I'm partial to Auto-RX.
