Decision Support Needed: Opti Replacement
Decision Support Needed: Opti Replacement
It looks like I need to replace my opti. So what is the best option?
The local parts store has a new one for $180. I can get a MSD with low miles for $300 from here.
What would you recommend? I have heard good and bad luck with all options. This is an earlier unvented spline model btw.
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks,
Paul

id stick with an oem opti, ive read that the msd optis arent all that great for the money, but dont know this from experience. i can tell you that i had an accel opti that lasted about a year, get a good old ac delco.
I have a MSD opti and I think it is causing my miss on cylinders 7 and 8. It seems to hold up and not fall apart all together like a lot of others have done on my car in the past. I am going to get a replacement, because I have not had it for a year yet. For the money I will say go for the OEM opti; make sure the rotor screws are put in with high strength loctite, they like to back themselves out.
Is Delteq back in business? They dropped off the face of the earth about 3 years ago. And, the system was far from reliable, with major, unexplained problems on random cars, that caused the designer/manufacturer to admit that it just wouldn't work on all vehicles. With no replacement parts avialable, it would be a real crap shoot to install it.
Dnyaspark is around as of August 2010, got mine after a four month wait to get it. http://www.dynaspark.net/
