You said the fastest car this kid has driven is his stock Z, right? M6 or A4? If he's never driven a powerful stickshift car, you can count on him spinning out on the shift to second. If he's not very good at stickshift driving in the first place, you just bought yourself a second or so.

Even granny shifting and babying the launch, I'll bet a C6 Z06 can run 12.5 @ 125+. All the driver really has to do is get it rolling and keep it straight.

You've got three months, and it sounds like some cash in hand. Ported heads, intake manifold, 3.73's or 4.10's, and a set of DRs or slicks. A 12-bold if you can afford it -- at the very least, girdle your 10-bolt. If there's any money left over, spray! Do it all as soon as possible, so you can get to the track and learn to work with your new power.

Any weight reductions you're willing to do wouldn't hurt either.

I've driven a C6 Z06 a few times, and they are absolute beasts. This car is going to give you a run, no doubt. As someone else has said, even if you hole-shot him, he's gonna reel you in on the big end...hopefully your launch is good enough to get you out in front early enough...

for us dumb/smarta**es
A friend of my brothers was driving down US27(4 lane) between Ft. Wayne & Decatur. Sees a Vette pull out on the highway laying all kinds of rubber, loses it & tags a pole. Out of the car comes J. Lingenfelter hisself. Seems like those Vettes are a little squirrelly.

He didn't say it was a C6, although I assumed that along with everyone else here based on the context...

All of these LT-1's around here that are running deep into the 11's and stuff and everyone seems to doubt that it can be done? I think it can be done easily on the squeeze and with a lot of traction. Yeah, he will trap a higher speed but that time is what seperates winners from losers. You could go N/A with it and beat it easily... Not on a college budget though. I have a buddy who has a 396 stroker under the hood of his 95 and I seriously doubt that a C6 could do anything with it. I mean, unless that C6 is running high 10's or low 11's?

Hopefully by the time I need a rebuild I'll have a good job and I will build a strong bottom end (355 or 383) and a procharger ontop of it... Once I get into the low 12's I will be done though. I am not looking for anything insane, just a fast daily driver!

C5s aren't that much different than C6s. He was probably testing. Who knows what it had in it. Just pointing out that high powered Vettes aren't that stable.
