date against a c6 z06 in 3 months.... what do i need?
Re: date against a c6 z06 in 3 months.... what do i need?
^+1 I no longer am too worried about those Z06's. Heads/Cam, gears, and DRs would probably do it with no nitrous if you get a couple passes in before you race. If you get the seat time in, then you might make it look embarassing for him if he is not a good driver.
Re: date against a c6 z06 in 3 months.... what do i need?
If you are a good driver and have slicks I say you will prolly win with the mods you have already.
I have seen so many people drive fast cars and run really bad times.I have seen vipers go 14.0@125 I have seen ZR1`s go 14`s@ 117mph and so on.I even ran my old setup on radial tires and a cold unprepped track and instead of running the usual 12.6 I ran 15.3@108.
TRACTION IS KEY

Would love to see a vid of the race. I would go with slicks, gears and as much NO2 your willing to put through your ride! And of course a hell of a tune.
By the way how much are you willing to go to beat him?

Re: date against a c6 z06 in 3 months.... what do i need?
im kicking myself sooo badly for not having the heads done when i tore the engine down. debated it but figured id be happy enough with what i did with it for a while.
first couple days driving her was great... then slowly... by the end of the week got bored with it again.
and was kicking myself for not getting the trickflow heads.
as far as how far... im willing to press my luck and drop another 1200. i can get the gears, zex dry kit and have money for slicks. Also have spare set of salad shooters they can be thrown on. If im feeling really intimidated.. i think i can call in some favors and get a set of longtubes on the car with Y, electric WP ,suspension, and dyno tuning.
Car will no longer be a daily driver in about 5 months as i am moving to seattle and will be living in city. I will have a garage so she'll be completly torn down in there and my spare time will be spent building full out drag. So im willing to abuse her for a few months. Only condition is i need to be able to at least get her back to Connecticut few days after the race. Race is happening in near rochester NY. If it comes to it car will be put on a trailor.
i came to school freshman year with a v6 camaro...3.4l- slow as *****. then bought this camaro from junkyard my sophomore year and completely rebuilt it that summer. Junior year i came back with it and was pulling mid 14's. This year i broke into 13's with no trouble, but then put her into a light pole one day after the track ( 60+ passes in the day , friends and i rented the track ). So this winter was spent rebuilding the front end again and doing engine work. When i bought car i said before i graduate ill have her in 11's and be my daily driver. Up untill now ive paid for everything myself, and did all the rebuilding myself (minus a costly diagnosis from a shop ) on a college budget and in my spare time. car has been whats got me through some hard times and taught me so much about what i can do. im willing to chance it to make it happen and show up a z06 at the same time...

If he's never driver a fast car before, and It will be his first day driving the Z06. I wouldn't be worried. He will probably end up crashing the car at the track.
IMO anyone who takes a brand new Z06 to the track the first day they get it is stupid. Hopefully he just does some test passes first, so he can get used to the car. That way he won't crash it.

i vote for a 150 shot hit at the 60ft drop the hammer off the line at 3200
get m/t 26x11.50 on some draglites
take as much stuff out of the car as you can pass seat all stereo boxes
remember to tell him if he loses traction let off dont hit the brake's ever on a stickey track a ligenfelter tt zo6 smacked the wall with a driver doing that this past summer
also let me know when i will drive up to watch and give pointers if i can

Re: date against a c6 z06 in 3 months.... what do i need?
I think before you start blindly throwing anymore parts at your car, you should go out and figure out where you stand as soon as you can and become proficient with what you have. One area where you will definitely need help though is traction, as the others mentioned sticky tires will be very important if you want to stand a chance. Look into some suspension upgrades as well to help you off the line.
I think if you can hook up and make your power stick you will have a huge advantage over your opponent as he will likely be very nervous on the line, with WAY too much power on stock tires. At this point the race may already be won, but if this guy is a decent driver he will learn eventually launch the car and will definitely catch you before the end of the 1/4 mile. If I'm not mistaken the new Z06 traps close to 130 mph which is alot more than your car traps currently even with the improvements you've made. Your ideas of adding all these parts last minute (LT's, electric WP, gears, etc...), I don't agree with it, you will spend a ton of money (you're going to break the bank just for one race?) for minimal gains and on top of it run the risk of having bugs on the night of the race because one of your last minute additions is causing a problem. One thing that is important though to get the most out of your car would be to get a dyno tune. After that, the only worthwhile cost-effective thing that I can think of that would help close the gap between your 110mph car and his 130mph car and that can be done in a short amount of time is the bottle. evena 100 shot IMO will help give you just enough to keep him away at the end, as he will pull on you as soon as he gets traction.
I think in general though you guys are overestimating his competition. Sure it's a C6 Z06, but the driver will have #1 no experience racing the car and #2 no track experience. I think these things count for alot. I don't know about you guys but I remember my first day ever at the track with my stock Z28 and it was NOT pretty. There were many cars with much less power than mine that had beaten me that day and shouldn't, and there still are as I'm still learning things.
Anyway, Good luck and keep us posted

My vote is traction mods. He will freight train you on the top end, new driver or not, so maximize the head start!
12 bolt, MT's good clutch, driveshaft and then spray

the guy will likely get over 1 second reaction time as well with no track experiance at all.So the turns his high 11 second car into a high 12 second car right there and thats if he powershifts like a pro
Re: date against a c6 z06 in 3 months.... what do i need?
chances are the kids gonna hurt himself before he gets past 60 feet, if all hes handled is a stock z. I know someone who thought they could handle the power and it took all of 26 miles on the car to put it in a field, luckily it didnt do anything but scratch the paint
