date against a c6 z06 in 3 months.... what do i need?

okay - know its pretty unrealistic to think i can beat a c6 z06 with a good driver.... but heres the situation.

Friend of mines dad is one of top GM guys (multi-millionaire) and were graduating college this spring. Night before graduation is a test and tune night at the track and plan on making a trip down there. *edit - turns out z06 is just for the week to play with -* ohh to top that he when he goes home he also gets a brand new escalade ... anyway.. hes challenged me at the strip- his z06 vs my z.

From what i can tell guys are running mid 12's in these on street tires and with headers getting into flat 12's with decent drivers. Kid has A) never been to a strip before and B) car will be in stock form.

so i have 3 months to ensure a win. just installed the cam and valvetrain this winter so havent had a chance to get new numbers.

last fall with slp shorty headers, stock cats, loudmouth catback, FIPK, Trickflow elbow, TB bypass and lt4 KM, i managed to squeeze out a 13.9 @ 102 on bald 18" nitto 555's ( 60' was 2.2 ) with 16" nitto 555r's i brought it to a 13.5 @ 104 (60' was 1.9)

since ive added :
CC XE 230/236 112 LSA cam
Comp Cams 26918-16 beehive springs
Comp Cams 787-16 retainers
Comp Cams 601-16 valve locks
Comp Pro Magnum 1.6 rocker arms
ARP 7/16" studs
AFR guide plates
Comp Cam hardened Pushrods
SLP airfoil
MadZ28 tune

also replaced timing chain, removed all emmisions, new coil, new plugs ( TR55's ) and taylor wires.

To ensure win thinking 4.10's and Zex dry kit with 125 shot. This best plan of action ? Trying to keep costs to minimal, know a good set of slicks be one of best plans but rear has 106k on it and cant aford to replace if i blow it off the line.

whats your opinons.... keep in mind this kid never been to drag strip, and never had a car nearly as powerful as the z06.

thnx guys -

11.7@127... w/ a magazine driver.

I agreee w/ the m/t's and 150 shot idea. Even if he sucks at driving, that's a nasty trap speed. Get a good hole shot, then spray n' pray.

ha... ya... gonna be a lot of luck involved...- to clarify is an m6'

well... maybe it would be worth it to risk the rear.. hell if it breaks meant it was weak and needed replacement anyway right?

Looks like my other friend has taken the challenge too.. but his car ran a 12.4 on stock gears and bad clutch last year.. since hes added 4.10s and new clutch.. and looks like now hes gonna throw a cam and 12 bolt on....

should make for a fun night either way... i should have a chance to drive the z06 too

but keep in mind.. .this will be the first day of the kid driving the car, and up untill then most power hes ever driven was a stock Z for a week..hes also never been to a track before... so figure hes gonna suck off the line

They run around the high 11 mark with good trap speed - he'll probably manage a mid to high 12 after he get's adjusted to the car.

What does your car run now?

Hard to say who will win this one - both drivers are essentially new to the cars.

no current times- previous was a 13.5@ 104 with 1.9 60' - but that was without cam/valvetrain and refreshing engine. figure that was enough to put me into mid 12's soon as gears go in.. and then add 125 or 150 dry shot to that. - plan on getting some track passes in before the meet to get better idea and get used to the car

so it seems, the spray/gears and say **** the rear, pray and get some MT's- will give me a chance

and dont worry, ill have it all on film for the board to see - should be a fun night

Wouldn't worry about the rear unless your an M6 guy. I'm cutting 1.6's on mine and i'd be willing to bet that's enough for you to take the 'vette out. I went 12.36@110.82 on a smaller cam than yours so...not sure you'll need the spray either.
