Data Logging (Scanmaster, etc....)

I am thinking about a data logger. Not sure what to get. Anyone that has experience with these please post your insight.

I ma looking at the scanmaster self contained. I also am thinking about buying a Lap Top so that kind of logger would be considered also.

Set me straight on these please.

Thanks
Owens

Without knowing the year of your car, no one can answer your question.

Why not add a "signature" with basic info like the year, model, tranny and any major mods, so people can answer your questions accurately?

Sorry updated sig.

I really am leaning towards a scanmaster. If anyone has had experience with these and what they feel is the best for the money.

Injuneer,
I have read your page of codes for the scanmaster. Do you feel this unit is more then enough for the basic user? I wonder about the programs being used on PC's. Which one do most tuners use to set the variables in their tunes?

Thanks again for any insight

I'm using TTS Datamaster on a laptop with an AKM cable. It works great, but it's only for OBDI. Of course, you could convert to OBDI, like I did with my '97.

Wouldn't staying with the OBD-II system simplify diagnostics? Tell me more about what you can do, not what the system itself can do, but what you do with it.

Thanks

Well, going w/ a Laptop/cable/software setup has the benefit of allowing you to flash tunes yourself, so you can get the email tune packages from Madz28.com or PCM4less or do your tuning yourself. I don't know what software to use w/ OBDII systems though, I thought you could use TTS Datamaster, guess not. That's what I'm using w/ a AKM cable on my laptop for my 94, and it works great. You can view what all the sensors are telling the ECM, view trouble codes in a quick table, and it will graph 4 or 5 readings at a time over your whole run. Of course you can save runs and play them back later, etc. I would assume the OBDII options are similar to what Datamaster can do.

You can tune OBD-II PCM's with LT1_Edit for OBD-II. I think there is now an OBD-II version of TunerCat.

For scanning OBD-II, you need AutoTap, or one of numberous other OBD-II software packages.

Injuneer is the snap on scanner worthy at all?
