Damned fuel pump!!!!

Check this out...

3 years ago: I had a 25th anniversary RS camaro... 5 speed... clean as hell... ran like a bat outta hell.... no IROC ever TOUCHED me... and i was bone stock with a K&N setup and catless exhaust with flowmasters.... and on one bright sunny day.... i get to my friends house... go in.. come back out... go to start my car... and ZIP!!!! nada... wouldnt even TRY to start.... i mean the motor turned... but no bogging or even trying to get going... its like my ignition just took a crap.... turned out i needed a fuel pump.

Present day: I can actually hear my fuel pump..... and i dont mean like... sittin on top of the dome with a stethescope tryin to look for a sound... i mean with the A/C fan runnin on medium... and a low radio i can hear my pump from the driver seat. Its not SUPER loud, but its loud enough to annoy a person who wants a nice quiet ride.... this tells me my fuel pump is bad. is it? i heard you have to drop the rear end out, and the exhaust to get to it............ naaaaaaah i have a friend who did the pump on his, and just cut a square piece out of the top of his dome where the pump was located right above the tank.... he put a piece of high quality plastic crap over the hole... said it was what they used to make nascar windshields or something... but im not going to do that... im going to dremel out a piece, and weld hinges to it for replacement.... access door so do you think i need it? my rear seat is folded down, but i dont know if that makes any difference... but the noise is worrying me... i think the pump is going to go soon, and that scares me... someone tell me if im just being paranoid?!?!??!?
