daily driver, monthly strip, 383

which would be the best cam for my daily driven, monthly raced 383?

im kinda between the 233/239 and the 236/242

any opinions on either

i have ported lt1 castings and hopefully just sold my 224/230, because its not big enough.

my end goal with dyno tune is a very low 12 high 11 sec car and close to 450 rwhp and 450+ rwtq.

thanks a lot

With that goal in mind, you're going to need to know what your heads are doing in order to pick a cam. While those goals are not unattainable, you're going to need heads in the high 270 cfm range. With practice, good conditions and a dialed suspension in a full weight f-body, 450 rwhp/rwtq will see low 11's easily.

Like the above post mentioned, if you are looking for a real 450rwhp number then fully ported aftermarket heads are in your future. If you keep your current heads then I would recommend the smaller of the two cams especially if is mainly your street driver and only going to the track every so often. If you are looking to run low 12's/high 11's then that is entirely possible with that combination. The trick is putting the power you have to the ground and hooking it up. Get a good converter if you don't already have one and look at the different suspension upgrades from places like Metco.

Sounds bad coming from an engine builder but I have to agree that a good chassis can make the engine builder look like a god and all the power in the world won't mean anything if you cant hook it up.

thanks for the responces,

i know all about the suspension and putting the power to the ground, and if i can get to low 12's high 11's with the smaller cam ill do it.

thanks

I highly doubt you'll get 450rwhp/450rwtq, and you don't need that much to run low 12's/high 11's. I ran 12.12 with 384rwhp my first pass out with that setup.

Without more info about the cam specs and the engine build, it's impossible to make even a guess. And in any case, the duration specs you do give are very close so if all esle is equal there wouldn't be much difference. To really pick a cam, one would need to know the static CR of the motor (if that has already been fixed), the head flow numbers, the fuel that is to be used, what gear and tranny you plan to run, the exhaust and intake used, what driving characteristics are more important (drivability, strip performance, emissions, etc.), etc.

In general though, for both durations you specify, the "split" between the intake and exhaust is pretty tight for a typical street LT1 setup.
