I have a spare set of 93 LT1 heads sitting in my room collecting dust. And I decided to start buying the goodies to prepare for the cam swap.
What would you say would benifit these heads the most: Cleaning up the exhaust ports more? or Cleaning up the intake ports more?
Im really trying to keep my project on a strict budjet, and Im not crazy about sending them out to be ported, But I figured I could do a little cleaning them up my self.
Also, do our lt1 heads benifit much from a valve job? Meaning is it worth the $250?

Don't forget to have the valve guides checked and/or replaced. Valve job will help too.
If you aren't sure what to port, don't worry about removing lots of material. At least get a porting kit and smooth out the rough edges and ports, and smooth up the valve guide area a bit. It will help.
It sounds like you're not in a hurry to get it done. So take your time, be careful and you'll do just fine.

ty. Ill be sure to have the guides checked as well. I originally bought the heads with a lt4hotcam. But later on I decided to go with somthing else. So now that I have done my longtubes, and true duals. I feel that the motor is runing strong, and there is no need for a rebuild. So I will start my project again.

Just had my heads reworked last week after blowing head gasket
1995 Z28 with 131,000 miles. new valves, seals, and springs and resurfaced, the machinist said the guides were still like new he just ran a hone through them I was suprised at 131,000 they were still good he said guides last forever on the LT1's, cost me $360.00. Ordered gasket kit from cmotorsports, great price and awesome customer service, ordered lifters, ARP bolts and ARP bolt sealer from thunder racing, also great people to deal with with awesome customer service. All my parts will be here Wednesday so in mean time rebuilding front end and big thanks to INJUNEER on his reply to my post on rebuilding front end it helped a lot.

Your gains from a valvejob alone would be dependant upon the exact valvejob & how it was applied. There's an infinite # of angles, widths, radii, etc. that can be applied to the seat/valve & their positions relative to each other & everything else can all be altered to improve airflow where ever it was most beneficial.
Is that confusing enough?
Most are going to give you the standard "3angle" valvejob & that'd likely show some improvement over stock, but we've honestly never tested a normal valvejob on an untouched LT1 port - only valvejobs for cars with headwork restrictions...
I doubt it'll hurt, but the gains will likely be meager
