cuts out a time or two after 5grand, im stumped.
96 ta ws6 m6,
it dont do it in first, then it does it a time or two in second and a time or three in third and a few times in fourth.
its like it looses fire or something for just one cylinder. pulls hard then bam, and its back pullin again.
kinda like i tap the brakes real hard and then its gone.
runs good any other time. just a couple little bangs in second and up. just started it a couple weeks ago.
could it be fuel related? maybe not enough fuel pressure. (adjustable) something. any help appreciated.

Re: cuts out a time or two after 5grand, im stumped.
im right with you there, i wasnt throwing a code or anything, and i have the same issues as you, new wires and plugs cleaned it up some but it was still there. converted to a Delteq system, still there (irate doesnt describe my mood after that investment). i ended up snapping my driveshaft and bending some pushrods so now the motor is out and such, i have looked the harness over and found nothing. im going to put a new opti module in when the motor goes back in, and hopefully it was just that. but somehow i am doubting it with no codes being thrown and it was still doing it even when i was just using the opti for reference signal.
Re: cuts out a time or two after 5grand, im stumped.
i think im going lean at those rpms. cause it only does it at night. i will go a few turn in on my fuel pressure regulator. it has been ok while it was hot but since it is cooling off in the nights i think it is going lean. so maybe a lil fuel will make it act right.

Re: cuts out a time or two after 5grand, im stumped.
If your fuel adjustments don't seem to help, double check your wires. Both LT1 cars I've owned have had a similar issue above 5000. Eventually it got worse and worse on one until it actually began backfiring with a loud pop heard from the CAI. It was under warranty and the dealer diagnosed it as the coil wire, replaced it, and it was healthy again.
My current Z started the initial stages of that recently, just sudden losses of power above 5k. I changed the coil wire last week and it's been fine since. (there was a little corrosion on the coil side of the wire)

I've had the same problem, first time fixed with new NGKs but now has returned. I'm at 95K on the original opti and wires which I plan on replacing. Maybe I should try the coil wire on its own first. How would you know if this is related to coil or ignition module breakdown?
I use my car for track days and Solo 1 competition. It actually seems to get worse as the engine heats up. On slower tracks with less radiator air flow my engine gets hotter and the problem becomes worse so I doubt it is running lean. Just like the rest of you it is worst in 4 th gear over 5000 but can occur a bit in 3 rd . I don't ever even notice it is 2 nd.
Another question, Why no codes??

Re: cuts out a time or two after 5grand, im stumped.
Attach a fuel pressure gauge to your fuel rail schrader valve, tape it to the windshield and see what your fuel pressure is doing at high RPMs. If the fuel pressure is dropping, then your fuel pump isn't keeping up with your fuel demands or your fuel filter is clogged.
Re: cuts out a time or two after 5grand, im stumped.
Surely coil function is more damaged by heat than an optispark correct? Maybe the coil is my real issue and not the optispark. I will likely change it first along with the coil wire.
Re: cuts out a time or two after 5grand, im stumped.
im having the same problem within the last 1000 miles, i have replaced all the spark plugs, wires, opti, fuel filter, o2, water pump and that initially solved my problem. Turned out a while back i bough some napa wires that werent the rite size so i dint kno this i put it in the shop and they replaced everythin under my hood with factory gm parts..and rite as we were about to throw in the towel we put some factory gm wires and it ran really well...for a while...this problem really was not that serious until last few weeks. It got the worst after the trip down to savannah...i just drove the car today and as soon as it got hot or a drove it for a little...it falls flat on its face but when cruising it doesnt miss and i dont have a misfire code throwing cuz my SES light isnt blinking its just on. It seems like it only misses under medium to heavy load...i hope this is some more info.
