Cut-out, to LOUD for street?
Mine has never been closed since it was installed. I do still have the stock exhaust(including cat) though. After my LT install I'll have to get back with you on the open 100% of the time part. Never heard of anyone I know getting nailed for having it open. I'm sure it's happened though.
I ran my cutout open 99% of the time for 7 months (May to December) I loved it, but the interior vibrations made me get sick of it. If the interior didnt vibrate so much, I would have kept it. I even siliconed down the shifter plate and it helped, but other things still vibrated. I now have a Hooker catback and love it
I like to drive with it open while driveing through town. But i close it on the freeway. I usually keep it closed though because the interior rattles a little to much. I like the sound of the cutout open more then closed but i also like the sound of my hooker catback so i just switch it open or close depending on my mood i guess.
All depends on what your definition of loud is.
A cutout with a cat is IMO, probably the perfect loudness. Not loud enough to hurt your ears, but loud enough to get noticed. Remove the cat and its obnoxious.
After that I ran open LT's once and awhile, thats way too loud for the street.
Now I've got the true duals, and I wear ear plugs going around town.
As for getting pulled over. I got pulled over once, cop didn't even blink at 28" tall ET Streets and the exhaust that visibly dumps at the rear axle.

I'm about to do an electric cutout. I can't wait. I love the wide open sound. I was working on my starter and had the Y pipe off. I started it up half to hear it open and half to test the starter. It was sweet.
But the electric gives best of both worlds. You can enjoy it when you want and as soon as the traffic gets heavy or LEO's are nearby close her up quick.

Wiring is so easy in electric cut out installation!!! Believe me, there is nothing easier than this (30 min max)...I can do it for you (for 6pack)...

I think there is no way a car can be too loud
but i have a question....i am goin to do LT's later this month and am thinkin about just doing a cut-out w a hooker muffler cuz there is no need for a full cat-back if im gunna have a cut-out.....but heres the question......what kind of cut-out should i get? I am really low on money (i'm only 15), but would rlly like one that I can switch back and forth easily........what should i get???

I haven't closed my cutout since I got it. I even bought the QTEC which I still havent installed
.
I havent had any trouble with the police but that will hopefully change once I get my headers and ORP. My exhaust set up is going to be totally reversible so I can go from cat and muffler to nothing
