crazy lt1/400sbc idea
crazy lt1/400sbc idea
hey guys i had the crazy idea to take a 400sbc and just bolt a lt1 intake/fuelrails in it and keep it fuel injected.
after doing some research i saw that it will not work due to the distributor hole not being it the lt1 intake. so here is my crazy thought. why couldnt i use a lt1 cam use a lt1 timeing cover and just block the water pump drive like if i ran a electric water pump on a lt1, and just use the opti with the lt1 harness?
this would go in a 95 z28.
is this at all possible ? h*ll i dont even know if i could wire it up to get and spark from the opti spark haha
thanks Dustyn

Re: crazy lt1/400sbc idea
It's possible to put LT1 heads/intake on an older small block but why? The heads are decent but not really worth the cost to convert them because of the smaller intake ports. Your other idea of putting an LT1 timing cover on an older motor won't work as the front of the blocks are quite different.

Re: crazy lt1/400sbc idea
TPIS makes a gen 1 intake that is basically a LT1 intake to fit older engines.
I know of one guy who put an LT1 timing cover and opti on a gen 1 block but it was a HEAVILY modified Donovan aluminum block with welding and all.
Now I believe there is a way to make the LT1 computer run with a late 90s rear mount distributor out of the vans or something. Never paid too much attention because I only play with the LT1s and never had an opti problem.

A good set of ported GM heads and a cam swap on a stock shortblock LT1 will make more at the tire through an automatic than that makes at the flywheel.
You would be lucky to get 350rwhp in an M6 with that and that number is doable cam only.
