Cowl hood fan idea

I have an extra radiator fan from my TT 3000gt left over and i was wondering if i would notice any gains if i put this in the cowl of my firebirds hood. The air would be flowing out of the cowl so it woud be sucking air from underneath of of the car over the engine, and would be helping to pull air through the radiator. Do you think this a good idea? I would wire it to be controlled by a switch of course.

i don't think its a good idea because cowl hoods work by picking up the high pressure area formed by lots of air beind pushed ahead of the windshield. Thats at speed at least, i suppose it could work when you're stopped or something.

So should i cause the fan to run downward over the engine instead?

Yes, I would run it downward. I understand that hot air rises but you would probably be pulling more hot air than normal right over the top of the intake if it was blowing it out through the hood. I am not sure you would see any gains/losses either way because your intake air is coming from outside and below the car. I would probably only try it if you were carbed.
