Even if you haven't spun/wore out a bearing yet. Your chances of doing that are really good now that you have basically a bunch of sandpaper in your engine.

Best to tear down now. You may still be able to get away with just having your crankshaft journals polished and new crank/rod/cam bearings.

well i took the engine out and none of the bearings were spun!!!

i was feeling around on the top end some more and noticed that the pushrods were all snug but then i grabbed a rocker arm and i could push the rod down in the lifter about 1/4 inch...WTF!!!! almost all of them were like this.

surely they shouldnt be like that.

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying about the top end...how did you verify no bearings were spun?

Yea they're way too common over on the twin turbo 3000GT forums...I've experienced it myself one time in a milder than average case, it still wasnt pretty (if anybody who has a 3000GT is reading this, dont let a machine shop touch your crank, buy a new one)...If you aren't sure if you have it or not, you more than likely dont and are just hearing some valve train noise of some kind....And since you were saying something about your lifters pushing down however much, sounds like possibly a collapsed lifter, or 2.

This is NOT a spun BEARING!!!!!!! I know because my last 2 engines have spun bearings. It can be a broken lifter...

thats what happened to my v6 when i went nawz crazy

i had to get the engine changed, they told me my cylinder walls must be messed up to hell, and its easier to get a new engine since v6s were 500 bux...

That sounds like collapsed lifters.

the bearings looked ok. normal wear for 170,000 miles i guess. had a couple pits and gouges here and there but nothing detrimental.

i guess it was the lifters after all.

when i first bought the car everything was fine. then i changed the oil and all hell broke loose...lol!
